Thread regarding Paramount Global layoffs

How likely is it to get an RTO exemption?

Read here that a tiny group might get to stay remote, at their manager's discretion. Any real criteria behind it, or just who you know?

@k5 Yes A hybrid 3x in the office can be productive. Just schedule meetings on the days you are in. 5x is a waste of time. By the time you wake up and commute on Friday, you're already checked out as soon as you walk in the door and waiting till 3pm to leave.

@jt the only reason i worked for paramount despite the lower pay was because of the full remote nature of the work. if they wanted me in office, they should have offered to change the compensation. i'm getting ~80% more from my new job which is 3x in office (instead of 5x in office). not that difficult, either pay up or keep us remote.

@jy Or people who specifically turned down better job offers which were full time in the office, to stay hybrid. Those who cant understand that can go fk themselves too.

@jt Or grown adults were hired as remote workers with no office near them and are now expected to move without assistance or cost of living adjustments.

Kindly, go fu-k yourself bootlicket.

I come on to this site like once a week and it’s all the same every time. Gown adults mad they have to get dress and go to work. It’s pathetic.

I’m wondering now if Phase 2 folks can benefit from all the Warner brothers office locations we will have.

Also rumor is there will be exceptions in Phase 2 for people who can work remotely (it already happening now, let’s be real).

@d4 You won’t force them to do anything. Much like Phase 1, you will be presented with your options which will most likely be to relocate closer to an office or opt-in to a severance buy out. If you choose to do neither, you will be subject to termination without severance. The only difference is (depending on where you live) is that you most likely won’t be eligible for unemployment if you opt in (since that is considered a voluntary resignation) while you probably would be if you wait to get fired. It’s nice to think you are in control, but sadly you are not.

@b3 I live over 3 hours each way from nearest office. If they force me to RTO, I just won't show up and wait for them to fire me and force them to gimmie severance. Fu-k this place.

@b0 Yep, ppl have "only" been working remotely since at least the early 90's, if not earlier. These id--ts want to take things back to the 19th century and still compete with the likes of heavyweights like Netflix. Can they really be this stupid?

the response about no exceptions is totally wrong multiple official exceptions for out of state people have been given and multiple exceptions for teams without enough office space LA offices
anyone should attempt an exemption if they need one ..
most people around me leave by three every day unless they somehow have a in person meeting ..

You need to return to the office. No exceptions. Managers are tasked to assist or surplus holdovers

I know for a fact, some of my team members are fully remote. Some are in CA, some are outside CA/NY.

Some of team members were also to get "reasonable accomodations" for health reasons. I know someone who lied about being narcoleptic and is now working fully remote in some small town while getting a Los Angeles salary.

Make things up. Play the game and the company will reward you

I heard streaming is trying to put in a proposal for exemptions for people without an office in proximity to them. I’ve also heard that they are considering opening offices in some locations with high remote employee concentration. My gut is there will be very few exemptions and they will eventually get serious with people not coming in.

I think you have a good case if you work hours where people wouldn't be in the office.
