Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

Large companies can survive and thrive with fewer management layers

Elevance Health should give it a try. Rif the expensive middle management layers like Staff VPs bringing in large compensation packages who are nothing but protected filters between the layers.

Are you a bored executive who has nothing else to do at the office? Then hold a meeting!

@196 maybe it will help people change their mindset to only have critical meetings. For useless meetings, encourage those people to ask Spark instead!

If we get rid of all the layers, who will go to useless meetings

Management meeting all the time, but info you need to do the job is only shared if managers like you.

@qt Medicaid Encounters just posted for another Manager job. So many managers that don’t do anything but gossip. I guess they need another gossip hound.

Good luck because it’s not going to happen. SLT thrives on middle management like SVP and sr. Directors to point fingers at when things don’t go well. We all sit here and wonder why some SLT like FN and PH are here when they have nothing to show.

They removed layers under Joe Swedish and earlier as the focus was to “reduce layers between the CEO and the associates on the lowest rung.” With all the hires and notices since the PITA has been CEO shows she’s added them back in.

@am Right. If we made them have 14 directs instead of 7 we could get rid of a bunch of managers right away and save this company tons of money.

A Director with Directors under them who are managers with direct reports need to be scrutinized. These set ups are inefficient and are usually set up this way because one or both directors have no clue what they are doing.

@e3 business change managers & directors are mostly a joke. They are the in between with communicating two different areas. I’m sure in some situations it’s helpful but for the most part we can handle that ourselves. Also, they are paid very well! I interviewed for one of those positions before I knew much about it and the team lead told me, we don’t get into stuff too far, we just link the different areas up to each other.

@am by Managers I hope you mean Directors - Managers run a team - Directors run their mouth sadly but that is about all - how about look at the SVP and Business Change Managers and Directors what the heck is that about? I see the title but no clue what they do

Managers only have 7 directs is ridiculous. Especially since none seem to do anything.
