Thread regarding DXC Technology layoffs

I, for one, would welcome another WFR round

Getting laid off sounds more like a rescue mission to me. This job? It’s one big mental health crisis generator - stress, chaos, zero support. I get that some people need this job badly, and I wish them all the luck in the world. But for many of us, the sooner we’re out, the better.

@rd up You obviously left 15 years ago, and yet still can't get the place out of your head. That's clear sign how bad it is. If you're still with DXC and think it's so brilliant you've also lost the plot. Or are one of those clueless out of touch execs everyone else barrates.

What utter poppycock , you would welcome another round if WFR. You are no a ducking slave, if you can do better elsewhere then do it and we know you can’t so shut the duck up already. 15 years hearing the same sh-t and your still with DXC

Don't know how everyone in this thread is so convinced that leaving on your own accord and wfr are mutually exclusive. I'm actively interviewing but that doesn't mean I wouldn't embrace WFR to get out of he-l early with a little extra money in my pocket.

Laying off staff nearing retirement has always been expensive, so they try and balance thise with long service across the teams. They try to create an environment that will encourage those with long service to leave of their own volition to avoid paying high WFR payouts. But those waiting WFR know to hang on in there and put up with the incompetent management for as long as they can to be get the big WFR payouts. Let's be honest, it's not for job satisfaction, is it?

Staff don't want to be here, but most are at the end of their careers - we certainly don't want to be starting again somewhere else, but are not quite at retirement age either. So basically won't go unless paid off. We'll win, we either get paid to sit about moaning how cr-p DXC is, or get paid our 20 years severance and that will do. I don't think the company needs us, but it won't put the effort into finally removing our check the system, reboot the system roles either. It's an easy life - although somewhat sole destroying and that's why we stay.

@am UK employers have a legal duty of care to their staff. Just "jobs" could have been automated long since and have been elsewhere. But DXC doesn't seem too concerned and continues running things the legacy way - it probably didn't expect to still be doing it this long!! Hold onto the rails - we're going down, it's just a matter of when. So why get stressed about it. Although obviously just tell your Doc you work for DXC, and you'll get a months sick note before you've finished with the classic stress symptom list.

If you've been with DXC some time and earn less than c.£40k, you'll find your redundancy now matches statutory rights as the caps have increased over the years. So least it doesn't matter if the company goes bust for most of us now as government pays if the company can't. If you've joined more recently on a better package redundancy doesn't apply anyway and will also find it easier to move on.

@OP You are so right. There is no career at DXC. It’s just a job and staff are body-shopped onto dying accounts. Where’s all this new business from ‘healthy pipelines’? I’ve got a year or two left. Will play the game, keep a low profile, maybe a spell of stress leave, then leave when I want to. Until then I’ll keep drawing my check doing as little as possible.

Newsflash: An employer's obligation to "support" you begins and ends with a paycheck. That's it. They're not your Mommy to hold your hand, they're not your therapist to soothe your anxious nerves, they're not your BFF, and they're not your life's cruise director.

It's a J.O.B.
Nothing more, nothing less.
It's not a lifeline or a support system.
It's a means to an end.
It's a JOB.
And employers are just as expendable as employees.

So take it or leave it.
But passively whining/b!tching about it isn't going to change anything.
Getting a different job or starting a business of your own, however, will.
