Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Does anyone know if AT&T plans to update severance terms soon?

Those changes tend to drop out of nowhere but they matter too much to only find out when cuts actually happen.

The 104 weeks is just a union fairytale. Nobody has ever received that kind of severance and they never will. I guarantee it.

I don't know if it's an update, but there is fine print that says if you take a severance and leave, then find another job with AT&T and get rehired, your seniority gets restarted. This is only in regard to the severance package, you may be able to get the time bridged for Pension. I know, the question is "Why would someone come back?" It happens - look at the prisons!

CWA union workers severance payment which we refer to as “term pay” in case some people on the board here are unfamiliar with the slightly different terminology, is unable to be changed by the company because they have been bargained for in our contracts. Depending on what location the company decides to declare a surplus, the union worker would be entitled to up to 104 weeks of pay. Hopefully that answers the question if our term pay could be changed, short sum up here, it can’t!

The severance is a way to keep former employees from suing upon termination. AT&T has a lot of reasons to keep paying that severance.

@a7 , those meglomaniacs would LOVE to cut it to three months & then totally eliminate it. They want that $ in their pockets…not ours.

@ak You may not care because you're jealous and are mad you'll only get a few months pay and union workers get up to 2 years termination pay plus much better benefits than you. Haha... gfy!

Legacy T union workers receive up to 104 weeks termination pay, midwest D4 union workers receive up to 88 weeks termination pay. Not sure what SW/SE termination pay is for union workers.

No one on this site knows or will speak on it. Extremely high level stuff before it filters out to the 5s and down

Yes, policy updates are likely in the works to reduce or eliminate severance pay for managers. Union workers, on the other hand, are contractually entitled to termination pay should they be surplussed. The Leg T contract, for example, is up to 104 weeks pay depending on seniority so as you can see, it's much better to be a union worker than a manager when the inevitable day comes for layoff - which we all will experience. Medical, dental and vision benefits are also much better for union workers.

I wouldn't be surprised if they lowered it 3 months. There were rumors a year or so ago

The management severance plan is already below industry standard for a corporation this size (since reduced from capping at one year salary to 6 months back in 2015).

Unlikely to be further reduced.
