I realized there is no reward for trying hard. Arriving early and going home late is not noticed. Extra hours and effort aren’t noticed. Still trying so hard. There is no recognition or awareness of all you do. At best they will say something nice but they won’t give you a bonus or promote you. Just do the minimum and stop trying so hard. If they don’t reward it why do it?

@fa this is very true, I know someone who only did coffee catchups and just gathered vague requirements without doing any real work. They got rated outstanding..
Early in my career, I got Performance feedback to work less and socialize more. Stupidest thing I ever heard but it’s true. What you do is maybe 70% of the equation. Advertising what you do and building your network is the other 30%. And that ratio might even be 50/50 in reality. It doesn’t seem fair to hard but quiet workers, but it’s the way the world works everywhere. Do your most important work and spend that incremental hour having coffee with someone new.
The best thing is to move but not do anything that way it looks like you are busy. It’s not rocket science people! Think!
The question though - is it different anywhere else?
@ak many companies are doing this now letting people go and post the same jobs for lower salaries
If you get promoted or pay rise , there comes a point where you become too expensive to hire … experience is not valued, quality work is not valued . Your job get replaced by someone cheaper in a blink of any eye … yes why try so hard
Yes either working hard or not does not matter. If you are chosen you can do no wrong if you are not you can do no right. I have seen hard working employees piped and lazy do nothings promoted. It is bizaro world at exxon.
