Getting rid of Excel? Are they smoking crack?

Anyone who's spent five seconds using them knows that Excel is way better than Sheets than what you'd get from say, Copilot vs. Google Gemini. Are they trying to destroy my productivity? I already know the answer. You complete fu--ing mo--ns.

@gn while I mostly agree, 20M (if true) is nothing in the big picture. It's equal to Hans' golden parachute while Dan will pocket 200M in 1.5 year if his stock pump to $75 works

If the vast majority of employees can use Sheets because they aren't manipulating large data sets, it makes perfect sense to only give Excel to the people who can get their VP to sign off on an exception. Finance was exempted as a whole already. The company spends around 20 million a year for Office licensing, yet a very large portion of employees can and do use Sheets. It works fine for day to day stuff. I only find it a problem for huge datasets.

@f1 yes, all on Google and Gemini customers model will take all the KT from Drive. Cost is BS.

While most are poking fun, I will offer a true conspiracy theory.
They want to train Gemini on your data, so it has to be in GDrive. It's not about cost savings. They will run their model training whenever they want off your data. Today, most data is locked away on your PC or laptop that isn't always on the network/VPN, or gets power cycled.

When Dan says 30% unemployment, he aims to get there as quickly as possible with VZ.

@ah Leadership doesn't go with what is good but what is convenient for them.

And don't forget cheap or free.

I remember dragging people kicking and screaming from Lotus Notes to Outlook and then to Gmail. Lotus Notes was the bo-b. 😁 Those were the days.

As an enterprise solution, GSuite is a joke where the punchline falls flat.

Sheets is an abombination.

It is and was nothing more than supposed cost savings with other needs of the business be damned.

@cr It's an interesting idea. Say they would run business decisions like

  • should we buy AOL
  • should we buy Yahoo
  • should we do Oath
  • should Hans get 20M golden parachute
  • should we keep raising dividend every year like an addict or improve financial health and longevity
  • etc.

by all employees Polymarket style. I suspect the business would have been in a significantly better shape if they did.

So called world class cfo org is a joke still holding onto excel. The leadership that allows that is terrible.

CFO org is exempt from loss of Excel for now. They get Excel 2024. We'll see how long that lasts

Someone is suffering from VDS (Vz Derangement Syndrome). It is what it is. People complained about going from Outlook to GMail, this is no different. And if you didn't see this coming, take the blinders off. Excel is a superior product over Sheets. Leadership doesn't go with what is good but what is convenient for them.
