Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Per Dan the network just needs to be good'nuff. Yep, and Chrysler's cars last and run just like Toyota's. And Venezuela and Iraq both have WMDs

Keep this in mind while reading the below: A new build costs ~$500,000 (under/over deploying equipment costs even more). It pays to get the best performance up front. Mod projects cost less, but rework adds up fast. Don't forget about rent at the site locations, too (landlord/tower vendor).

Seeing the number of layoffs of the cell site designers, VZ's higher up managers evidently never learned the lessons from riding in POS cars from American car companies in the 1970's and 80's. During that time Toyota put in the work up front to provide quality cars. Now Toyota is eating the other car makers' lunches. Maybe the higher ups grew up getting new cars every few years, so they never experienced constantly breaking down in American cars and not being able to afford better.

Customer service on the front end was put on the backburner. Now, network design will take a backseat, too. Poorly performing areas will continue to perform poorly.

Let's ignore a lesson of the auto industry (long term quality does matter). All cars are essentially the same, so no stopping of the production line, and the design just has to be good'nuff, it is ok to have acres and acres of new cars needing rework before going to the dealers. Following that model, it is ok if we waste design money, need lots of rework, and delay needed capacity and coverage solutions due to all of the coming rework and poor location choices.

VZ is going the way of Chrysler - All in the name of giving more money to less people, regardless of the fact there is plenty for all.

Today the big money show on fox slammed the detroit automakers over electric vehicle construction flip flopping while praising toyota's consistency. They also did a segment on people unretiring. One of the hosts commented that maybe her dad could help her pay her verizon bill (if he came out of retirement). Brought back the memory of this post.

Customers will feel more pain from the network side (customer service is a different animal)... not overnight, but cumulatively over a couple of years and onward. The downward spiral of network quality will be a slow motion train wreck, with no one from upper management admitting it and accepting responsibility (and lower management will not press the issue since they want to become upper management).

MANY projects (new build and mods) need lots of handholding through their project lifecycles due to various reasons. Remaining VZ RFEs will be stretched too thin, project timelines will get stretched, details will be missed (wasting money, poor network service stays bad longer or gets worse in some areas). Vacation time, which requires someone covering for the vacationing person, will cause turmoil within the groups because people will already be covered up with work.

Band aides will be applied, maybe even formulas changed to redefine what is a trigger sector (make the network appear better in those glorious slide decks). Some projects will be deemed not as big a priority as they once were (temp venue sites, seasonal areas, etc..). Things will be done to mask/lesson the pain, on paper internally anyway. But, customers will feel it.

Guessing ADs will be asking/wanting some fulltime VZ RFEs to come back, or will be asking for more contractors and that they be allowed to do more (like cover for vacationing VZ RFEs).

Yeah, the network will still be there - good 'nuff.

@bh Are you a Network employee? You must be one of them that has no attention to detail and just allows your co workers to pick up the slack, but now that they have let the actual workers go ithe network 26will implode.

@OP - "VZ's higher ups never learned lessons from riding in POS cars from American car companies in the 1970's and 80's."

Ridiculous post. Verizon has a bloated cost structure with way too many employees and a terrible market strategy that needs to be corrected as soon as possible.

Verizon's network will continue to complete calls, send texts and transmit data with little of amy degradation of quality post company layoffs.

AI will design it, contingent workers will over see the build which will be built by the lowest cost contractor and the network will be maintained by an aging workforce who doesn't understand the technology. Stock to $60 right?
