Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Is there a severance-related limitation on starting a new job?

For instance, if somebody is getting paid for the next 60 days but not required to work, can they start somewhere else immediately or not?

@aj yeah, I commented on my own post when I noticed I didn't read the question completely. curious if they give 4 weeks for a first year now as posted by few folks or it still 2/first year and 1/year after with cap 26 weeks?

@a9 during the garden leave you get your normal paycheck, then after garden leave you get the balance of your severance. The 60’days in my case were included in the calculation to see how many weeks I was eligible for. So if it was 18-weeks, subtract the first 8 weeks if garden leave and that will be the balance. That’s how they did it last fall…can’t speak to this cycle tho.

@ae back in August, the 60 days were counted as part of the severance package. So if they calculated 16 weeks, 8 of those were the 60 day period. I don’t know how they do it now, though.

From this post "I was given 60 days to find internal position. During this period I was still paid as usual. And I got severance only after termination day.", compared to what I got now, Oracle seems to treat the "60 days" as part of your severance package? Anyone else can confirm?

!! Be aware, severance is taxed as supplemental income at 30%!!!

@a9 Sorry I misread the question. This is how regular/immediate layoff was handled. I was given 60 days to find internal position. During this period I was still paid as usual. And I got severance only after termination day. HFH

Severance will be handled as lump sum payment with taxes already withheld, it'a not like you going to continue to get payments every pay cycle. At least this is how it was handled by Oracle in 2021

Just don't tell Oracle or your previous coworkers that you got a new job and just in case don't update your LinkedIn

If you can find a job that fast it would be worth forfeiting the remaining severance. Unless you know someone who is planning on hiring you soon, I wouldn't plan on finding a job fast. The job market was tight and Oracle just added a lot of people to it.

If they want their money back, just tell them you want your signature back. The severance isn't because they let you go, it's because you agreed to the terms of them letting you go.

So at Broadcom, you could start a new job, but that ended the payment stream and any payment of Severance, they may not find out, but they also may, ymmv.
