Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

How many of you are actively interviewing?

Everybody I know is. I wonder if it's just my team or a larger thing.

Our org certainly has felt a bit like ghost town in the recent weeks, although no one openly declares to be interviewing. I know of at least one excellent colleague in EMEA who is volunteering to get laid off as he became disillusioned and has been with the company for many years. Myself, I made a plan of topics to learn and refresh so that I can start interviewing soon. My manager told me that I have nothing to fear being excellent performer, however I am not sure I can trust this information given what is happenning. Gosh, I liked the job and colleagues.

@aj There’s no need to stay put to take advantage of the rising stock! I believe O employees can purchase O stocks whenever and however they want.

a good chunk from EMEA are actively looking, after weeks of uncertainty and extra pressure it is understandable. I will start applying this week as well, given years of my life to this company is not worth it

Oh yes stay for all those RSUs that everyone is getting. Just don’t count on that stock to keep rising once people look at the underlying applications revenue which is falling. Anyone remember the internet bubble with all this talk on RPO we are just betting on the future. One move by another company, country or technology shift and those share will fall. Also don’t forget if you get RSUs they will only give you enough to meet your target comp level. We are not all going to be millionaires unless you have a vp like title

Just to add: it is worth clarifying that layoffs are not a new thing. It is just the amount of layoffs, the amount of people affected, and that seemingly people are being laid off despite having great performance and achievements.
Previously Oracle would just try to get rid of the worst performers / PIP, but this is not the case anymore. We have e.g. a person who did excellent work for 20 years being laid off and nobody understands why they were let go. This is just one example.

I know several in my team under OCI that is interviewing. Even people that were not laid off said they do not want to work here anymore since job security seems gone now, which was pretty much the only thing making the low pay bearable, as in no pay rises seemingly ever. Some of the old folks say they do not interview though, as nobody would hire them at this point due to age discrimination and working with Oracle stack that is outdated or not used elsewhere.

We already knew it was bad from previous layoffs in USA+India, but it just keeps coming more often than it did before. And previously it seemed like EMEA was not affected but only USA+India, but lately they seem to do layoffs even there despite having to pay substantial severance.

Oracle's future is very promising. With the current market being so tough for job seekers, if you aren't laid off, it's smart to stay put and capitalize on the rising stock.
