Thread regarding Optum layoffs

I know people are scared

But think about it for a moment. Are you really happy at Optum? Has this been a good place to work anytime recently? And be honest with yourself. Being laid off might be the best thing that could happen. It's an opportunity to get out. A clean break from a bad situation.

@cd Well yeah! Gen Z is re--rded. That's why they vote conservative and can't use computers just like the Boomers.

@be Well... @aj's comment is ignorant and unoriginal. There's a foreign influence campaign underway to make d-mb young people think they have it so much harder (they don't). The goal is to manipulate this soft brained fools to favor greedy socialism that puts everyone into poverty. But Gen Z, etc. are pretty stupid and gullible.

@aj Not sure why your comment got many -. Probably because that’s the largest group taking jobs and property away from the generations that came behind them.

@aj That’s judging with hindsight.
No one could predict how things would play out decades later—people made decisions based on what they knew at the time. It’s always easy to look back and say what should have been done.
And honestly, the next generation will probably say the exact same thing about us.

@a5 I am so sorry for your situation. Please do not lose hope. You will get severance, you will qualify for unemployment, you are already on Medicare and it will become your primary insurance. He will need to get a supplement, but being that your stage three kidney disease you should be able to qualify for Medicaid so that won’t cost you or will cost you very little. If worse comes to worse, you can go into a facility under LTSS or a Medicaid program and the state will pay for all of your care. Many states will pay for assisted living for someone elderly and/or disabled. Start applying for every program out there. And sell those houses immediately!

@ah It's a good thing I put out clean, honest and positive energy then! Those who need to be affirmed endlessly, regardless of their bad decisions, came to the wrong place.

@af One thing I know about living that the energy you put out there in the world, is the energy you receive in return. Good luck.

@ae Sometimes the truth is disturbing and gross, regardless the s-b story some want you to believe. It is what it is.

@a7 You don’t know what my life is like, so it’s unfair to assume or tell me how I should be living it. I’m currently on Medicare as a secondary, and while I understand the general advice about not relying on overtime, my financial situation is more complicated. The second mortgage I had to take on pushed my expenses beyond what I can comfortably manage, and it’s not always within someone’s control when their obligations exceed their income.
I am completely on my own—no spouse or partner, and my immediate family is gone. That reality comes with challenges that are hard to fully grasp from the outside. What I need is understanding, not judgment.
I encourage you to approach situations like mine with more empathy. It’s important to recognize that people’s circumstances can be complex and deeply personal. Right now, the pressure I’m under is overwhelming, and being told how I “should” manage my finances only adds to that stress.

@a7 I have two mortgages on one house. I had to take out a 2nd mortgage a year ago to replace my dead HVAC and pay the 'special assessment' of $10,000 for a new roof. I owe so much on these places I won't make any money at all, if any. I will be homeless and/or dead with no meds for my Stage 3 kidney failure. I was supposed to start dialysis in the near future (kidneys are failing fast) and then the transplant list. I hate this place. I am one of the most experienced people in my group- (not management). I am just sick about this and I can tell you that I no longer have a reason to wake up in the morning. I will, but regretfully.

@a5 2 house payments? Sell a house, the one that has HOA. 70 years old in stage 3 kidney failure, get on Medicare. Everyone should be taught not to rely on their overtime income.

I am near 70 years old and cannot afford to retire. I am behind on my house payments as it is due to no overtime since Jan 1. What am I supposed to do about my meds? Without insurance they will be well over $7K a month- I will make $1700 on Social Security. Just my two house payments and my HOA dues are $1200 a month. how in the world am I going to survive? I'm in stage 3 kidney failure. How will I survive getting laid off? I won't. I will be homeless within 6 months. 401K only has enough to last me about 6 months. I had to keep taking money out for car repairs, home repairs, etc. Yes, I got the email. I'm at Optum something group I can't even think right now. This place has no regard for human life as I will be dead within a year or two due to starvation or exposure to the elements, or dead of kidney failure. I hate this place.

Over the long term, it's been a great place to work. But in the past 3-4 years it's Optum has truly gone to s***. People who are scared are being overly dramatic. A lot of the nonsense posted on this page is garbage from people who can't really think for themselves too well. Buckle up buttercup.
