I got a bill in todays mail from Vz Benefits for $600 (for spouse and dependent supplemental life) requesting payment. I checked the Vz RIF FAQ doc on this and it reads "you may also continue supplemental and dependent coverage...." but I never elected to continue this coverage once I was RIFd. I suspect some of you will also receive such a bill.

I kept my Supplemental Life Insurance. It's at group rates and I'm not going to get that insurance now with my health issues.
I canceled my supplemental life on the benefits page before Jan and got a bill for Jan and Feb. It says "0" next year to it on the benefits page. I called and they said it may take a month or so to reflect it so don't pay it. There is a tab on the benefits page with the same info you can see.
@ag Verizon s.... so bad
It's one of the better perks of being laid off. I read it before the chop and seems you continue at the same price as the group supplemental coverage. I would research before you say no.
Makes no sense bc the severance says:
- What happens to my current Basic Life and AD&D, Supplemental Life and AD&D
and/or Dependent Life and AD&D insurance coverage?
Your life insurance and AD&D insurance benefits will continue until the end of the month in
which your employment terminates. If you are eligible for retirement and you have a valid
Severance Agreement and Release, Basic Life will continue at no cost to you during the
severance benefit period. You may also continue Supplemental and Dependent Life
coverage by paying the full active employee cost of coverage for those benefits. If you are
not eligible for retirement, your Basic Life benefit will continue until the end of the month in
which your employment terminates and you will not have the opportunity to continue your
Supplemental and Dependent Life coverage. Prudential will contact you directly following
your separation with information on how to convert your life insurance coverage. AD&D
coverage is not eligible for conversion.
I saw that before the 12/19 off payroll date and called Net Benefits and advised them to make sure it didn't continue after my separation date as I wanted to cancel it. I stayed on the phone with the rep. and she confirmed it was cancelled. Low and behold, I received a bill. I called on Friday and because they had a record of my prior call, they cancelled and removed the fee. Make sure you call first thing on Monday. Oddly enough, you need to ask for the severance department when you call as that's the dept. handling this issue.
Have to send it to you to fulfill the promise to offer it. Send 'em money and you have coverage. Don't send 'em money, you don't have coverage.
Rather simple stuff
When many of us were rif before the 13,000 ruf we were offered megical for the severance period
Already did f that gonna call hr line monday and tell them whats up I never asked for this coverage to continue after Dec.
