Thread regarding TIAA (TIAA-CREF) layoffs

Elevate - success

I joined the Elevate kickoff today and I was so very much inspired. It appears executive leadership is embracing the importance of career development for all associates. I am very excited about this.

Whoever on the learning team who cooked up this whole thing is the ultimate troll. The whole point of stupid stuff like this is to make you feel unskilled so they can pass on the blame for having no career opportunities.

And the managers catching it from all sides will tell you to get skilled up and maybe that will help you get ahead. But they are just trying to keep the wheels from falling off before they can fire you.

@h0 your manager sounds like a coward. Figures as all in the C suite at tiaa are cowards. All they can do is read their prepared statements and answer preselected softball questions.

Haha. Tuesday was my last day. I had an important client facing role. We were told on a zoom call they were disbanding our unit and outsource to a consulting firm (this will cost TIAA more money). Get on the zoom call and all I see are HR people, so that's how I was told. My manager (c level exec) never spoke to me again and never once said I should look around for another internal role. We were cast off as trash, and we are skilled individuals.

Elevate is a good concept….but how many job openings do you see on the job board? They just want you to find another job with another company so they do not have to lay you off.

This is nothing but lip service. A lazy attempt to boost morale. They realize pickle ball courts, puzzles, and empty kombucha taps aren’t keeping people happy. Who knew that pause raises and career opportunities were more valuable than coloring sheets!?!?

@OP TIAA should change the name from Elevate to Empower to give more ammo to Empower to take business way from us. First, the company was scared out of Denver because of all of the Empower presence there and because of some big client losses in Colorado and now Elevate is a code word for layoffs and outsourcing. Everyone knows all the raises are going to the C-Suite and to pay for the massive increase in health insurance premiums this fall along with the hundred million dollar move to Frisco. Meanwhile, Brown Duckett keep benefitting and are not held accountable.

@ag was gonna ask the same thing. Elevate is a POS offering and they purposely did it right after a long weekend.

Like. They had events in Denver. Where they are closing and hundreds of folks can’t develop their TIAA careers in the company past next July if they aren’t moving to Frisco or Charlotte. Was a complete waste of my time on day 1, we’ll see what day 2 brings in Denver.

is that sarcasm? honest question. Because last I heard they're letting go employees with tens of years of experience in favor or overseas jobs or lower-paid new hires who don't even know what TIAA stands for.
