Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Does GT need a reorg, lay-off or no changes?

Does GT need a reorg, lay-off or no changes?
What’s your prediction and the right thing for Nike GT?
EDA&I roles, program and product management roles are some of the extra baggage which needs to be cut, which other roles. Nike GT needs to decide to either run projects or products, you cannot invest in both.

In the business and needed some marketplace data for something important, there was no such report that was built. It took me 3 months and multiple tickets to just get a straightforward answer.

DAI estimated it would take 7-8 months for this future. lots of standups, useless meetings, scope discussions etc as the usual BS
CMT was already working on something similar that was ongoing for 2 years.

meanwhile I build a basic version of what I needed over 2 weeks as a pet project, only using college level python. Couldnt even get an enviorment or github access since I was not in GT so just used plain old WSL on my windows laptop.

Gathered the data and wrapped up my report in a month while the clowns in GT were still fighting over turf. Probably they already are since it has been 3 years.

GT is god damn useless. Only exists for exec compensation and only cares about turf wars.

GT needs a reset and really substantial downsizing for business to heal. GT is a big reason why orgs are unable to progress and things come to a grinding halt the moment there is GT involved. Mafia like attitude by virtue of their control over IT infra at Nike, impeding progress in the name of security, compliance and other made up rubbish for protecting their turf. Most teams do not want to deal with GT - GT needs to GTFO

GT should layoff ancient species of Nike FTEs that are nailed to their seat, they don't know anything and they rely on the vendor for EVERYTHING, even for CREATING PROCESSES.
Those cockroaches swim well the office politics and often have a bff director/vp that covers them.
Nike should bring new fresh minds to GT, layoffs are necessary and should impact all GEOs as a shockwave!

Speaking as 5+ years of being a vendor in GT.

This thread is a funny collection of tech people who know nothing about the business and business people who know nothing about tech.

Dear EH, in case of GT and ED&AI, it’s important to understand the rational and reasoning behind such large orgs with massive budgets and WHY these are obsolete in today’s day and age of AI and nimble teams being able to deliver massive values across the board at much smaller companies. Ultimately, Nike is in the business of fueling and creating aspirational narratives that sell our core products. GT should be all about running our e-commerce platform and supporting software procurement. Shouldn’t need more than 50 people total to run GT if done right. ED&AI at best can be an innovation function with a team of no more than 10 people to ideate and explore AI initiatives. If these initiatives generate a real pull from categories, categories can work with external agencies and productise. No need to staff such massive teams that create bureaucracy and roadblocks across the Nike landscape.

Don’t worry - the “big one” is coming for GT. EH is not fu**** around, he needs the money back that Tech su-ked up over the last few years. He may not know much about Tech but he knows it’s massively over staffed, provides limited value in comparison to the cost and is incapable of creating value in current state. Tick, tick…

@ag stop talking so much sense! You’re going to cost a few families dozens of jobs.

We all know the solution to runaway cloud cost is to hire as many warm bodies as possible then help them think using a brainless LLM. An infinite number of humans slamming their “AGI” will eventually write something kind of like a budget Shakespeare (but maybe without sonnets, iambic pentameter, and everything else that makes him great).

If this strategy doesn’t work we haven’t laid off enough “expensive” experienced talent. The 50k savings per head lasts for almost 1-2 years before the cumulative cost of inefficient solutions runs away in a compounding chain reaction. I bet we could just hire MORE ineffective engineers and make it their job to fix up the other ineffective engineers solutions!

Oh duck. We’re right in the middle of a runaway financial nuke aren’t we?

We need to offshore more to ITC. We can take over from wasteful people in WHQ

Accenture is like the Emperors New Clothes but next level. EVERYONE knows they are milking Nike...

Mind blowing no one has put a stop to the grift.

@5+1 got it right.

HR for GT crowd sourcing ideas because they have zero clue how to help MD create an effective org structure? Or Maybe this is MD because she is clueless.

ITC needs to go, cut loses and run, yes the salaries there are likely 25% of what they are here, but they are 4x more unproductive, likely higher as it creates churn. We don't need a series of "architects" in ITC, we need 1 or 2 actual local developers with basically a lead title and a healthy dose of AI and gooooood bye offshore.....never liked that model and AI plus a ton of amazing local developers looking for work....the sense could make more sense and 1000x of cents!!

Remove Accenture from SEC they are literally su-king all the GT budget, instead trust your FTEs to deliver the rest of the program with occasional design validation from SAP, have any other service provider manage PMO so that Nike FTEs don't slack on their tasks and fire anyone who isn't upto the task.
