Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Do we think 3–>4–>5 days RTO is next?

What are the odds we get an announcement upping your org’s RTO requirement to go along with layoffs? Double whammy slap in the face per say?

We'd never collaborate with TII if that was the case. We'd all be in traffic.

@cq You’re wrong. Target grew revenue from $75B in 2020 to $106B in 2022. Nearly the whole time while WFH was in effect for like 90% of HQ. Actually our recent revenue stagnation is during all the RTO orders.

Coincidence? I think not! (JK it’s probably not causal).

When Target was soaring this whole remote/wfh thing was NOT a thing.

@am yeah for jobs like tech and site which should never be required to be in office. it depends on the position. also people get paid same amounts even less due to travel and being remote so ?

@a3 this is a crazy and bitter take. Funny that most remote folks would love to be able to go into the office while the people actually going to the office would prefer to be working remote. Instead of villainizing people who simply applied for a job that was posted and got it because they have the skill, experience and qualifications that could not be found where you are (or if internal they simply asked for a remote work agreement) you should be looking inward as to why you’ve never had the moxie or prowess to negotiate that for yourself.

@ag there have been multiple remote employees hired over the last few months even. As recent as a few weeks ago there were still remote eligible positions listed.

@ag maybe “recent” was the wrong word, since Covid would be more so what I was thinking.

@af there haven’t been recent remote hires in over a year.

I would GLADLY return to the office if told to do and especially if it meant keeping my job. Worked in person for over two decades downtown, it’s not a big deal. WFH is nice, and I enjoy not having to pay for parking or a bus pass like before Covid…but with all the recent remote hires, a little unfair we have to carry that expense now when they don’t have to.

@a9 I’m a remote TM myself in a high COL area and it literally says in the remote agreement they make you sign that all compensation is based on the twin cities market and they won’t consider your actual location when making pay rate changes. I’m pretty sure anyone can read that if you search for “Remote Agreement” on Workday or SharePoint.

I am remote. While I dont expect an immediate RTO mandate put in place, I Do expect remote work be assessed on a case by case basis. Like if skills this specific remote TM brings is very hard to find in MSP or SV (for the same pay). This is just my take. Having said that; I have started looking for roles in my location and I suggest other remote TMs start doing the same.

@a7 that is so not true. I know friends working remote in CA and they earn way higher COL adjusted salaries than those in MN

Not based in anything other than speculation but I could see a 3 day in office requirement coming next week as part of the announcement. Fiddelke is on record saying he thinks it's good to be in office.

@a3 Remote job offerings help expand Target’s talent pool so it’s not just the same demographic of graduates from the same 3 colleges. I think that’s a good thing and make sense for field-facing IC roles. Remote workers also are on the same pay scale as everyone else, there’s no COLA for expensive coast cities. It’s true that they can expense travel when they come to MPLS for work business which can create tension.

I think it would be more fair to require remote workers to pay their own way when they come 2 or 3 times a year rather than have no remote work at all, but that’s my opinion.

85%+ and they should require what remote leaders are left to su-k it up and move to Minneapolis.

WFH is one thing but remote is another. It used to be if you wanted a high paying job at target you had to move here and show up everyday for your teams. Now they get to stay in their cities on the coasts, making 3x our salaries AND they don’t have to come into the office everyday?

Oh and they get an all-expenses-paid trip when they do come to Minneapolis? Nahhh
