Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Pay attention

I hope everyone is paying attention to what’s happening here. We’ve just rolled out a new 5-level associate rating system for end-of-year reviews. Spoiler alert: it’s designed to make it even harder to get a top rating and surprise, surprise, that directly affects our AIP and raise eligibility amounts.
If you're “meeting expectations,” your AIP won’t be at 100% anymore. So basically, do the same (or more) work and get paid less for it. Add to that the early retirement offers, those roles won’t be backfilled, which means teams are left to carry the load with even fewer people. And if they don’t hit their magic number of 2,000 people accepting early retirement? Don’t worry, they’ll make up for it through good old-fashioned RIFs.
Oh, and to top it off? A whopping 2% annual raise in an economy where everything costs more by the day.
But hey, let’s keep smiling, pretending this is sustainable and don’t forget to complete your annual engagement survey so leadership can “listen” and do absolutely nothing with the results.
Also, whatever happened to that so-called benefits refresh? Other than expanding maternity leave and swapping out a personal holiday to give us Juneteenth (a PR move at best), nothing has changed. Our health insurance is still horrendous. But sure, keep telling us how much you care.
Meanwhile, our Star ratings keep falling, so not only are we failing our members and providers, but leadership clearly can’t even deliver a halfway decent experience for their own associates. But hey, at least we have that “culture of accountability,” right?
This is the direct aftermath of poor decisions by leadership and how they scramble to paint a beautiful picture to the shareholders.

I'm not ready to blame Rechtin and his leadership team. The previous leadership chose to pull out of the commercial market, after the ill-fated Aetna merger a few years prior. They also failed to anticipate the return to normal utilization post-Covid. All of those reflect very poorly on them.

You do realize this is a for profit company, don’t you? If the grass is so much greener, go ahead and take your ERP.

@af All our eggs are in the government basket. I think we got out of commercial so someone could buy us with less government scrutiny.

@OP The problems started when they abandoned commercial insurance to feed off the te-t of Medicare Advantage. Now that's come to a screeching halt there is no real back up plan. It was a risky move that is no longer paying off. They need to get back into the commercial insurance world or this ship will keep sinking.

Everything in this post is so true. Star ratings will get worse and those that are left will take on the work of 3 to 4 people. We are just doomed.
