Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

For those that were laid off and found another job, any advice would be greatly appreciated…..

Be prepared to be unemployed for a year or more. Sign up for Door Dash, Rover, etc. once your unemployment benefits run out (not before). Apply at Trader Joe's or other grocery stores while you apply for career jobs.

Be selective with the jobs you apply for. Mass applying is tempting but rarely results in anything. Network with everyone.

Do not go back to Nike. So many ex-Nike people focus on getting back that when they finally find a new job, they just get laid off again a year later.

Good luck. It took me 8 months to find a new job after the last big layoff in 2023, and in hindsight, that was a much better job market.

It's brutal out there and Nike on your resume isn't the gold stamp it used to be. It's a numbers game, apply to 1000 open roles, get 50 interviews hopefully get to the late rounds on 5 of them Hope to get an offer. Keep cranking and dont get discouraged it's not you its a buyers market and the buyers are picky AF.

You need to leave Portland or find a different career. I'm not even joking. Computery jobs have been in decline 4% YoY.

It’s been over a year. No job still. Some interviews. Lots and lots of resumes and networking.
Even got a few interviews back at Nike. The cash pay for etw is about 35% less than what I was making full time with benefits before the layoff. So with benefits factoring in even less.
Still looking though and doing some volunteer work tutoring kids to stay busy.

Right now, having Nike on your resume is a bad thing in the Portland area.
