“Talk about a lose/lose situation for the individual worker. NO!”
Every employee is in a different situation and the choice won’t be the same for everyone.

@OP - In the current times you are taking a big chance on something that is not guaranteed to last beyond the time it took you to relocate then you are in a new city, new state with no support system, no friends, no family and no job. Talk about a lose/lose situation for the individual worker. NO!

AT&T wants to sell communications universally and not extend to their own workforce. They forget that employees are also customers; and like anyone else, can shop around and leave for a better deal. Forced moves are nothing more than power plays touted as necessary to collaborate in another location yet you get there and are alone with no other team members. We can collaborate remotely and do so from office to office daily. The real forced moves are truly job reduction efforts. If AT&T wanted to drain the pond they could offer employees a buyout and there would be a mass exodus of more senior players but they don't have to do that and can wait out senior employees. Legacy T hasn't hired in the last 25 years or 30 years so the workforce is very senior with most having over 30 years of service. Many are waiting on a voluntary offer to go.

There are no guarantees if you relocate to another location that you will be retained so it's a gamble. Sadly, I've seen a few folks move and then get forced out/surplussed. BIG corporations have one thing in mind and it's not the lower level managers or the represented workforce; it's the stockholders and the golden towers.

U moved last fall at the start of the school year. It has been a good decision. My kids are really liking their new schools.

“Deciding factor was relocate on your own dime, means get lost, we don’t care.”
Really just means you skills are low value and easily replaced. With this being an employer’s marketplsce, AT&T doesn’t need to offer money for relo.

" I know multiple people who this has already happened to."

Yep, this has been happening since the started the FTW actions 12 years ago. I am aware of 3 individuals that were fired after moving, and one of the was battling stomach cancer prior to being forced to move to Dallas.

I relocated to Dallas June of last year, and my manager has just notified me I will be laid off in the upcoming surplus action. What a mistake. I’m so upset.

I relocated to Dallas last year. It was a good decision and has worked out well. No regrets.
