This needs more visibility! SAP to pay Teradata $480M

https://www.theregister.com/2026/03/02/sap_teradata_settlement/

This is one of the most loud and clear signals about SAP's lack of ethics and integrity. The court is finding SAP guilty!

In June 2018, Teradata sued SAP, alleging the database giant undertook a "decade-long campaign of trade secret misappropriation, copyright infringement and antitrust violations."

Teradata alleged that SAP used its strength in the ERP market to "lure" it into a joint venture in 2008 and then "quickly grab market share" in data warehousing. In September the same year, SAP tried to get the lawsuit thrown out for good, arguing it was "factually groundless."

Proverbs 26:27
“Whoever digs a pit will fall into it; if someone rolls a stone, it will roll back on them.”

Don't forget to take your mandatory annual ethics training.

I always though "simple" in "run simple" meant "easy." I guess it's the OTHER simple.

@OP The current board is innocent. It happened much earlier.

Don’t be unfair to CK and DA.

@OP "Teradata accused SAP of stealing intellectual property for decades and exploiting its market power. According to the allegations, the German software group used a joint venture founded together in 2006 to gain access to Teradata's intellectual property. SAP's bundling of the HANA database with the S/4HANA ERP system was also a disadvantage to other providers and thus violated US competition law."

Where is the accountability to exec board on this? Has anyone heard of how they will prevent further ethical failures like this? How can customers trust SAP when they are fraudulent with partners?

@ae That’s a good question that I had to ponder for a while. Nintendo almost fit-but they don’t sell software, and SAP’s current management style is obviously modelled on Donkey Kong.

If Chuck was still around he would not permit this payment.

It seems that Celonis may also win against SyaP in court. Signavio was acquired by SAP because it was in financial trouble and they knew they would eventually get sued by Celonis. The entire Signavio Product Management is filled with ex-Celonis Product Management and all they do is talk to their friends over at Celonis and copy their product features before Celonis does. It’s a stupid feature factory with Joule integration being the only real differentiator. That is why Ron Agam the previous CPO was removed. And Signavio non-SAP product managers quit. SAP should fire all the ex-Celonis goons and replace them with long term SAP product management that knows what SAP customers actually need in the market. Curious to see how that case turns out in court.

Name a software vendor who has not been ripped off by SAP.

Tough isn’t it.
