5 Days RTO starting 1/5

Well, I just got notice from my manager. I hate to break the news, but the 5 days RTO rumor is true. It’s not 3 days anymore it will now be 5. Seems they are planning to use RTO to reduce headcount without severance. Just fair warning to y’all. I am in shock.

HR insists on at least a 45 day lead time before making these type of changes. So if true would need to come out next week. So if you don’t get the rif you have a new issue to deal with. The employees will never win.

@ae Hi Field Guy. Thanks, I do enjoy the office. Year round climate controlled, plenty of free coffee/tea, professional coworkers to talk to. Enjoy your rounds. Thanks for being a field worker.

The more you complain about RTO and want WFH only proves to the psychopaths that your job as with customer service can been done from any place remote. Only proving that your job is ready for outsourcing.

@ak exactly this. I have seen very people not coming 2 or 3 days, still getting promoted because of lip-service and past relationships working together and yes-racism on same religion based in last few months.

Does it matter? Employees now are supposed to come in 3 days and they don't.

I have also heard 5 day RTO starting in January, at least for hybrid employees…not sure about those who were home-based before Covid.

LOL at the rumors. RTO is NOT expanding to 4 or 5 days. You can post all the fear mongering, rumors, and conjecture but the honest truth is that it is NOT expanding. There will be more facility closures, but they will be WFH. So just calm down.

What’s going to be the rule on how many hours you have to be there to count as an office day? ATT requires 6 hours.

@a9
In my past life in the military there was a saying; chose your rate, chose your fate. You office rats chose. Us Field guys have been out here since day-one of Covid. Yes, we did get a $300 a week stipend for awhile but don't dwell on that. Enjoy the office. I will see you on my rounds! And to bring back fond memories, please wear a mask.
With Love,
A Field Guy.

If this is true, what about all the people that work in the offices that closed like Folsom for Boston? There’s no way they would make all of us come in five days a week and let those employees continue to work remote. This must be a heavy consideration for who’s about to get laid off and it’s likely to be a lot of home-based people.

With the new location strategy, some FTEs are converted to remote",
so 5 days RTO does not N/A to them

@a8 Before Covy? 4 days mandatory with an optional WFH day if our group met our SLAs.

@OP I thought Vz would move to 4 days starting in Jan and allow staff a WFH day going forward…but maybe I misjudged.

Amazon and others used this approach and it was somewhat effective.

“Intentional reduction: Many executives have admitted that RTO mandates were implemented with the intention of making some employees quit, thus reducing staff and labor costs.”
