Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Week of 10/20

Talked to a Director today. They are requesting that directors are in the office on Mon & Tue (w/o 10/20). It's mandatory. Well know about layoffs after those meetings as I am sure it'll leak here (it did last time). It's so exausting to wait for things like this as I feel powerless and there is nothing I can do, you do good work and you can still be axed. I guess that is what capitalism and free market requires and I get it, but on a personal level it's just hard.

@jomama So are the cuts much bigger than is being discussed here? How can we trust if you are truly in the know.

L8 with extra exposure to changes due to role. none of what's being talked about is proven fact.

No directors or sr directors are being told they have to be in. Demo day was moved sooner due to other constraints with tech perf testing on Wednesday.

@re

Ok, but also, there have been a lot of desk moves in TP3 with the commercial RTO… so I wouldn’t necessarily say boxes appearing in TP3 is an sig.

@eq boxes were delivered in TP3 last week, not sure about other areas.

@eq If I am let go, I am not packing up anything; I will let my manager deal with all my Target detritus. I have taken the important things home. They can do what they see fit to my Target awards and Bullseye dogs!

@eg typically directors and senior directors are informed just before the RIFF’s are called into a “status” at about 8:30am. Look for boxes. That gives it away.

@OP were directors actually warned last time? In the 2015 Riff our directors had no knowledge of the layoffs or who was being let go. As mentioned a lot of level 7 directors were let go in that riff so telling them would have just created more chaos. My understanding only the senior most leader of each department knew the details of who was getting laid off. Did this director say they have to be in Monday to get the news and then Tuesday will be the layoffs?

Demo Days is when tech projects are showcase. Now it makes sense that it was pushed back.

@ae What’s with the downvotes?! What happened to the Target empathy and love? Honestly never heard of the damn term. Sheesh. So glad to have left this fake a-s company. I was warned long ago TGT is full of fake a-s people. This proves it right.

In seeing multiple large and small reductions in workforce over many decades, expect the unexpected. The last one we had “leaders” (managers and supervisors) let go. Teams were then consolidated. It seems there are too many “leaders” with small numbers of staff. L7 and above need a good cleansing.

Is this company wide or department specific regarding the mandatory in-office day for directors on the 20th?

Sorry but what is Demo Day? It's not ringing a bell.

If I’m remembering correctly Demo Day was moved up by 1 day. Does anyone know if that is a correct memory?

Devils advocate here - why announce before Demo Day? Can you imagine the morale?
