Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

I don't feel like working

This past week took everything out of me mentally. It drained me to a point where I can't even think about work without feeling anxiety and dread. I have no idea how I'm supposed to be productive going forward feeling like this. These layoffs destroyed much more than jobs, they broke down morale and left many of us questioning how much longer we can keep going.

Time to su-k it up and get the kinks in your exit strategy ironed out.

Round 2 is coming soon to an employee near you.

Off over a year.

I should have done at Oracle:
More outside Oracle marketable tech skills. "Even" backend Java job specs expect work experience on springboot, kafka, AWS (plus now AI). (And most/many are full stack i.e. plus JavaScript and for example REACT.) (Plus leetcode/hackerrank tech interview filter..)
Everyone has: git, docker, Linux, SQL/RDBMS, (programming language: Java or Python...).

Very few "Oracle Database" jobs: DBA - require serious production DBA experience, failover, hot backups (trying to remember the buzz words) ... No Oracle Cloud. Most dev expect etc SQL/RDBMS without being too vendor specific.
Microsoft windows basic cloud/office 365 admin/active directory/azure would be worth having, for a bit of flexibility/breadth.

Actual skills: 'Desktop or similar' Java.
A fair amount of PLSQL/Oracle Database.
Tiny amount of Java Web applications.

@bj It is not worthy, it’s the best time to plan your exit and start preparing for this. If you stayed there too long like 15 or 29 years, it’s time to jump on the job market flow, as many things had changed during that time. I understand that many of you is 50+ or so, but don’t be afraid to plan your growth and upgrade your skills, take care to recover your mental health as O is a cutting wings place - saying that from my personal experience.

Is it worth to work/wait for more year in this company?

@ae , Right advice at right time.
Though we survive, I feel bad of recent layoff's.
Will take a sick leave to recover.

The first thing is to take care of yourself, just go on a sick leave to recover - mental health and power are very very important, don’t ignore it. O is not worthy to devote it. And remember to start planning plan B.

I think that might be a normal reaction. I’m feeling the same way. Others have posted on here that things eventually do get better.
