Thread regarding MetLife Inc. layoffs

What happened to the rumors about the major reorg?

Any updates on that?

@ae yes they did - they developed a new inside design shop. We’ll see how long that lasts while still employing a bunch of contractors. it’s laughable. Contractors who have no insurance experience at all but because most came from agencies - they must be good…lol.
They just shuffled a bunch of people around in their highly paid positions and created more highly paid positions such as adding more directors - previously, these jobs were being done by people 1 to 2 levels down…but directors and above will now get paid to do the same jobs! Basically they made the entire organization more top-heavy, but then also laid people off. Don’t even get me started on management. Some of the worst management I worked for in that company is based in the marketing department. There’s two teams of people that work there the ones that lied directly to your face and smile or the ones that don’t even talk to at all and ignore you and they have created a culture like that as well. Poison
Great job, Metlife!

@1vp it gets worse than that, especially in GTO. You have non-people managers who were demoted who still have access to salary information that get to chime in as well. These 'individuals' get to have a say in promotions as well in spite of the fact they no longer manage anyone. It's just a game of kiss the ring and who can kick others to the curb to keep their place at the food trough.

@1hx it's a multi step and quite frankly inefficient process. I've managed at a few companies and the way it's done at Met is a mess. First the manager ranks their employees basically on how much of a disruption will it be if the person walks. Then it goes into some sort of convoluted ranking hunger games where other people who don't know the employees decide if your rankings need to change. Nobody will give you a straight answer on how the decisions were made but you're left holding the bag come time for comp conversations with these employees. It seems clear to me this process was designed to ensure lower ranking employees get as little as possible from the annual process while the people up top pad their own salaries.

@1hx it's how they decide who the favorite(s) will be... do with that what you will.

So what's the deal behind the Talent Profiles under way, that managers have to complete about us; however it's Fort Knox top secret and we are forbidden to view. Is it more window dressing that amounts to a nothing burger or is it totally political on whom they deem a high potential? My manager is an absolute mo--n who will forever stay in their grade level; so how are they even capable of genuinely rating others?

@1d6 Already been happening. All across GTO. If you are still there, just look at who is still in their role.

Watch for H1B visa replacement employees. And look for work to be shifted to firms that hire H1B employees.

Heard this from a little birdy that groups of teams were escorted out by security from the building and shown the door.

They are happening. Some are already done. Roles are being RIF'd but no announcements are being made outside the individual teams where folks have been let go.
