I was offered a postion in tech as a G14 starting at 125k. Is this typical for this grade or am I being low balled ?

Low ball?!? I made $100k as a 15. I know 16s that were promoted in the last few months and making $135. People are out of reach with reality.

Anyone skilled at technology would never join this group of backwards management.

Sounds about right. The financial industry isn't known for super high salaries, people generally seem to land here for the pacing and consistency/stability/structure. They give decent bonuses and benefits are good enough. Just know whatever salary you're hired at, won't change much for the duration of your tenure.

Technology at the bank is terrible. 1980s Technology with a pretty front-end. The stuff behind the pretty screens is a nasty non-integrated ball of never designed bandaids. Technology management was built from azz kissers who su-ked as programmers so they were promoted. Technology management struggles using email and PowerPoint. Management likes to call lots of meetings to stroke their enormous egos to waste your time.

If this is your only offer then accept it. It is well above the mid-point for G14 for Twin Cities which means if you do well to secure an extraordinary rating then you are almost guaranteed to be promoted to G15 (low mid-point) so your boss and their boss do not need to keep justifying you at G14 (way above mid-point).

This is high end for sure. Again if you join it will go up 2% …. A year even if you did miraculous things

This is above mid point. If you accept it, rest assured you will receive minimal or zero pay increases at your annual review regardless of how amazing your performance is because you are above mid point. The bank has recently become VERY focused on mid point. Look elsewhere if you expect any type of upward mobility from a pay perspective.

That’s the Max for g14 in minny. You must be a smooth target to be offered the max pay for g14 in that area.

The target salary under the new recruiting guidelines for a G14 in geo range C is $104K. That would be 90% of midpoint. $125K is well above the midpoint of $115,500. If you are an internal, I advise you to accept this offer.

Seems actually generous for a 14 but it depends on your market.

Doesn’t sound egregious but let me know the city and I’ll check

Which city? I can look up the geo range and tell you where the offer lies within it.
