Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

2026

As far as my understanding goes, all offices outside the hubs are supposed to close after December 2025 with only less than 10% of staff working virtually and everyone else forced to hubs. However, I still notice that many locations (even the remotely located ones) are still open in January in major non-hub cities with folks probably getting extensions to stay. Is T going to continue them in 2026 and beyond?

My org is designated as National but has about 50% of its employees outside of hubs. These people are spread out all over the country.

Have any NFTO’s outside of hub locations received any word on what their plans for you are?

Heard from f some people receiving notices to RTO to hubs, but doesn’t seem to be affecting everyone.

I am talking about non-market based folks who are still in non-hub states and cities. I am thinking they will get an extension in 2026 as long as the local office doesn’t close.

Pretty sure he's talking about non-market based groups.

My group had someone decide to not RTO and was laid off. (This was the RTO that was a precursor to moving to hubs for the whole group.) The replacement position was advertised as being in a hub, but then the person they hired was allowed to stay in original non-hub city and WFH no less. I think they finally said in this last round that the replacement employee has to relocate to a hub, but has longer than the rest of us to actually do so.

“ It’s pretty annoying to see some people get accommodated to work out of a local CO or field yard, while others got let go for failing to relocate.”

Obviously you don’t understand that throughout the country many market based employees work in office locations that are also CO’s. Some of these locations have hundreds of employees. Typical they are C&E, RAN, Field based organizations etc. They work from those locations because they are centrally located to the geographic areas of responsibility. People denied access to work there generally have no reason to need to work there. People working at CO’s are getting special privileges

“ We understand the market driven roles for the field.

Techs, 1st level and 2nd level field teams will remain in the same area as they slowly lose people over the years and territories become larger.

All support roles ( dispatch, tools, project management and anything AVP and above) will be pushed to the major HUBs.

This is why the ORIGINAL email for RTO said nothing about “spokes”.

“Spokes” came from local leadership and they were trying to appease the local work force.”

Do you realize how many market based employees the company has (Director level and below)? The largest organization ACE is comprised of these people who are spread about all over the country, in every state and in multiple locations in larger states. They can’t effectively be consolidated into a single location and still expect these organizations to function effectively and best serve thr networks and its customers.

There are many many office locations that include CO’s etc where hundreds or thousands collectively are located. Those cannot be closed and those employees cannot be relocated. These employees are market based and their jobs are entirely dependent on being in the markets, at times the field. So this idea some are floating that only hubs will exist is entirely inaccurate.

The CEO shared in the original email about the designated HUBS. There are now spokes to the HUBS.
“Leadership” and the CEO need to share what the TRUTH is and be TRANSPARENT about what the ACTUAL plan is regarding locations.
Will rims and tires be next and where will those locations be?
RTO is such a cluster. So much for TRUST and TRANSPARENCY. “Leadership” needs to work on their “culture”.
