Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Laid off and still trying to wrap my head around everything

I am fighting off the bitterness because part of me keeps replaying all the signs I ignored. I should have trusted my own instincts when the job stopped feeling right, and I regret not taking that seriously and not leaving on my own terms. It hits hard when you put in the effort, stay loyal, and still end up pushed out the door.

This is by far the worst job outlook for the Houston area I have seen since the 1930’s. The worst part about it is that it has happened so silently and abruptly that the job numbers aren’t even showing up yet. I think the real unemployment rate in Harris-Montgomery-Fort Bend could reach 9% by summer.

If you left "on your own terms" you would not have the nice severance to carry you.
This is a better outcome because in your own words either way you would have left.

Severance is a good thing. This will be a good catalyst for you to find a better job at a better company. Yes, COP pays well, but it's leadership is less than fantastic and there's a lot that could be done better. Add it to your expanding pool of experience and knowledge and move onward and upward.

I felt the same way at first but with severance this has been a blessing in disguise. I felt underutilized and unchallenged at COP.I hope to be able to use my skills somewhere else with more growth

I think Verizon isn't too worried about "losing" the employee"...

@ac+1ka68gdw0 - You are not the failure and it is management that is the failure. They are the ones that overstaffed and made bad planning decisions that put us here. Knowing that may not help you find another job, but it does put the blame where it belongs, and it is right on the back of the executives. If Conoco is having to layoff so many then as an executive they are the failures. Good luck and take care of yourself.

@OP yes it does! I feel like a failure and am not sure I will be able to find another job that pays as well to support my family
