I can see the downtown office from my window.
I stared at it all night.
I saw the lights go out.
I saw the lights come back on.
I don't know what today has in store for us.
But if I've learnt anything from life,
This too shall pass.

@ac Thanks for sharing your life experiences with us: Goes to show you that most of us can overcome adversity of any type if we put our minds to it. Life is too short to fuss about what happened, and too short to be bitter. One thing I learned on my end is that over my time at TGT, I've focused less on me and my well-being, and more on putting extra hours into work to catch up. I even forwent going to visit my Mom on the East Coast after major surgery because she had said she was fine, and I planned a visit in a few weeks to check on her: she passed within a week. I lived with regret for a while, but soon forgave myself. Don't let work or deadlines consume you because before you know it... you are just a number on the chopping block.
I don't work at Target anymore (left a few years ago) but still have many friends there.
I've had several major crises in my life. Major health issue requiring 3 surgeries, a layoff 6 weeks after my first child was born with a new mortgage and $8k hospital on the way, first marriage ended in divorce after her infidelity.... it always eventually gets better. It su-ks so hard in those early days, but every day that passes afterwards is a day closer to life getting better.
On one had, Target giving 60-70 days of pay, plus decent severance, is quite okay these days. On the other hand, I think they should've done these layoffs in a different way. At least eliminate the period of uncertainty which in my experience is the absolute worst part.
