They pay for that privilege. Personal negotiation is way above any member's skill set, so they pay.
Jealousy of the protected union class is unbecoming of a management professional. You agreed to work longer hours for less pay while filling in for the striking union when told to do so. You agreed to give up your job before any union person does. Stick with your agreement or go somewhere else.
