Thread regarding Synopsys Inc. layoffs

@a9 Yes, not only did we not receive any benefit from it, but we lost money since our stock options immediately tanked. Ansys was a great place to work, and while they had a minor restructuring in 2017, otherwise they aren't layoff-heavy like Synopsys apparently is.

It's been a really bad deal for us.

Synopsys bought Ansys, because they had to. Cadence went into the broader multiphysics market through several acquisitions, and Synopsys wanted to compete in these markets as well. Ansys had a semiconductor unit, with many complementary EDA components that Synopsys needed to attempt to monopolize entire flows.

You don't have to blame yourself for being laid off. From the pictures on Synopsys homepage, it's quite obvious Ansys is not the essential business. We don't even know what will happen tomorrow for not being in the management club. I hope those with expertise other than EDA have better places to go.

that's not cool @a1 - they have families, careers, they are human just as we are - losing a job is horrible thing to go thru

@a1 Unless your name is Sassine, you didn't do anything. Not like anyone at Ansys was asking for this and we didn't receive any benefits from it either.

@a1 do not blame the workers for the greed of the higher ups. They are not responsible for the greed of the executive class.

@OP Yes I'm here. But we shouldn't be here, part of this company. We were successful on our own and didn't need Synopsys. Is anyone at Ansys happy about this merger? ANYBODY?! Did anyone benefit from this besides Ajei, who is now off to another company?

Well, the reason we have layoffs today lies in the afact that we spent so much $$$ buying them. I wish them all the best but I am not sorry
