Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Unpopular Opinion

I was hoping for a different outcome than most of us here and must say.. I am completely disappointed to have received a safe email. I honestly wish I could take the spot of one of you who has invested way more into this. Anywho.. my prayers are with you all. I hope that your next road traveled is far greater and more fulfilling than Target ever could’ve been.

@as yes but the window is shortening - in a situation like this you would connect with your direct manager and ask if offering a voluntary layoff is possible if it meant saving someone else. This is risky, but if you trust your manager they should be able to work for you. Make it more about how you are trying to save someone else and not about you.

@aa Is it possible to volunteer for a layoff? I’d jump at the chance. How does one go about this? I doubt it’s feasible in a Fortune 500 company like Target.

@OP if you mean it, you can always go to HR and sacrifice yourself for a package and save someone else (I’m not joking, I mean this sincerely) - signed, someone who did this at their last job!

I have to admit if anybody on our team was "the low performer" it was me. I've never been of the corporate mold and the fact that I stayed and some of the most invested members of our team got axed just goes to show you how arbitrary this all was.

And then for Fidelke to say it "wasn't a cost cutting measure"? So you axed your best people on purpose?! The whole thing is just so tragicomic...

Leaving Target HQ over 10 years ago after working there for for over a decade across various areas was the best career decision I have ever made. They're only interested in promoting those who drink their Kool-aid and who agree with every sh*tty decision they let their managers/pyramid leaders make without the input of their teams. I am now doing a job I love (that I had also applied for several times when I was at HQ...but they hired on their interns and fresh-out-of-college kids instead). So I agree with you...to those still working there, there is a lot of sunshine and awesome opportunities outside of life at Target HQ!
