Managers know your fate

Managers are aware of who will be impacted in Oct/Nov. HR has the lists already. Does anyone know if the names are set in stone?

I’m a mid-level corporate cog, in the last round I didn’t find out until the night before that I had to layoff people on my team. Names already selected by the SVP above.

I know our group head has submitted a plan to HR already, but no idea who’s on it.

@OP what if you are fully remote? Are managers given a chance to prove your job is essential or they’ve already been told remote employees will be impacted ?

Ugh!!! That's horrible!!! What if it's the boss that needs to go? What then? Been patiently waiting for the boss to go so the environment won't be so toxic. Won't be surprised if I make the list - doesn't matter how hard you work or how much you know, if you turn the boss the wrong way, no matter how slightly, they only retaliate to make you look bad to the team. They may as well just let me go if the boss stays... no mercy..

This is 100% not true that managers know anything. SVP and above might

@a6 The % to cut will come from higher ups, as an e.g. only, lets say they decide the costs from the Revenue department is too high, so they'll look at the positions of everyone and there's 1 VP, 1 Director 2 Snr Account Managers and 5 Account Managers. The directive comes from the higher ups instructing the VP, who then tells the Director, 2/5 Account Managers and 1 Snr Account Manager will have to leave, leaving it up to the Director to evalute each team member. But it could also be a Manger under Director evaluating, it really depends on the structure of the department.

@a5 thank you. Are you saying the dept heads have been notified they have a % to cut or were given specifics on who to target?

@a3 If anyone's going to be made redundant the managers will already know yes. The business decides which departments will get cut, then it's put onto the managers to evalute team members. If the next round really is in 4 weeks our managers are already scoring us.
