Thread regarding TIAA (TIAA-CREF) layoffs

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT THURSDAY’S TOWNHALL

What has happened to one of the most ethical companies in America? Proudly working at TIAA is now a thing of the past. Buckle up, as you think last August was bad, you have not seen anything yet. More secrets and showstoppers are expected. Wait until the upcoming town hall announcement. Stop working hard for a company that will potentially discard you tomorrow. They may want you to quit to avoid providing severance. They will likely lie to your face and ask you to do more. TIAA needs to reassess its priorities and take responsibility. If the goal is to destroy the company, why do it slowly and painfully for dedicated employees? If the objective is to offshore operations and treat humans like machines, then consider the implications. Stop saying you care about employees when actions suggest otherwise.

Big announcement? More like crickets. Biggest waste of 75 minutes in my life.

@10q yep, and saw Empower finally has their logo on the three buildings now. Just in time for 1670 to take down TIAAs logo perhaps? I still don’t know why it’s on the building after last August’s announcement.

Our computers have overheated for years when we take them home, well before Covid. I also have never shutdown my computer to leave I just close it and put it in my bag. They don’t need specialized software to track they know what IP address you’re on, it’s not complicated. They also don’t need to have the computer sync to know when you are off the network, your IP won’t show connected anymore. Most of us are wired in the office anyways.

They haven’t shown they know how to track days easily, time would be a mess. People don’t always have laptops on in meetings. When in meetings people may not be actually on their computer even if it’s connected and it’ll show them idle. Unless I need to see what is on the screen I am rarely messing with my computer especially at home.

Will they do either of these things? Maybe I wouldn’t put it past anyone, but these generally come out in a special announcement meeting, not a regular town hall. The Ask the EC happens a couple weeks after these meetings every quarter so that’s not new. Normally the meeting would be something like “Update to our Operational Model” if it was going to be a change to what everyone needs to do. The quarterly meetings are pretty standardized with the patting themselves on the back, discussing all the Frisco talent, and discussing the abysmal financials while explaining we need to keep our costs under control.

I think the poster who said hours will be tracked has more teeth to the truth of this rumor than the ones saying 5 days in office.

Here is why. Our laptops are taking longer to boot up and shut down. IT said the computer is trying to sync with the network during shut down so do not unplug it until it is completely off else it will keep spinning and could overheat in your bag. Someone else had the same issue about slower shutdown times and came home with their laptop being super hot still saying shutting down.

There must be tracking our logins and logoffs when in office and at home for the 6 hour or whatever minimum requirement. The software seems to already be installed just need to activate it somehow in Workday or other system to track and report to management (probably not viewable by ICs though for now.

People have been bullsh-tting on here for years about the 5 day office thing. This is the first time I think it’s had any real teeth to it though since it’s the first time I’ve actually heard it from someone reliable.

Nice try corporate comms on trying to increase attendance

I agree @n3 It’s easy to spot the trolls on this board.

Either they just are trying to stir the pot, they never been to a TH here before or perhaps are former disgruntled employees. Also since anonymous could be angry participants or random posters commenting on this and all other boards. Maybe DOGE implants are navigating these boards to start up rumors to hope to make them true.

Idk. Just seems off their track record that they would announce that at a town hall event given how it will raise impromptu questions that couldn’t be vetted or “selected” and “assigned” before the Q&A. Yes for the last 30 plus years people were assigned questions to ask at town halls. At least one person per TH was done this way.

Then again… There is a new calendar invite for ask the EC next week so maybe I’m wrong.

Not here to spread rumors but more of my thoughts of how this will probably go, instead of RTO talk or hours in office requirement and thing. I base this on how happy and lively they want the audience plus the Interns that may be in attendance to not sway them
From coming back as an FTE.

1 they will talk about “their” amazing new Frisco office and how wonderful it is.
2 they will tank the “many many associates” who accepted relocation to Frisco and how happy they are to keep them in “the family”.
3 they will be brief but basically sad to see “some” of our Denver and Jacksonville associate leave the firm and “wish them well”.
4 they will be “thrilled to announce” a similar offering to Charlotte and other sites to relocate to the beautiful new Frisco site. By adding that many associates asked about relocating there.
5 they will talk about remote folks “deciding” on relocating to Frisco as well too and are going to keep promoting “it’s a we thing”
6 20 minutes or more of the financials talk about how we’re the best and only getting better with Accenture and AI.

We’ll have an all associates call 2 weeks later to talk about any kind of 5 day RTO or in office hours being tracked. Or it will be an email and 5 minute meeting with our managers only.

@h9 right since T likes to steal the show. Poster might have just made them ruin their weekend to come up with another plan. So far all of these big announcements were exposed before the top 3 levels get to do the shock and awe

@h9 also typically the news is. It done at a town hall but a separate and smaller event sometimes last minute.

The Jacksonville and Denver news last year was a last minute calendar event add… by that I mean some got it a few days before others got it the literal day before.
Same for Accenture news… impacted and non impacted folks got an almost last minute calendar invite that was separated by an hour.

This town hall was on the calendar for weeks perhaps a few months if I recall.

I could be wrong. Perhaps someone who is fully remote or remote flex has a calendar invite this week (or had one last week) for the news to be shared with them before the full population but they can’t speak due to nda or something.

@fg are you new to this site? Just kidding. But yeah nonstop nonsense on here.

Everyone has their thoughts/assumptions, a “reliable source” or insight from the “grapevine”. No one on this site is actually privy to the information or sit at the top of the house (top 3 levels).

Heck maybe the big news is JPMorgan is buying us out. Or Accenture. or The Fed. Or Nuveen is splitting completely from under our wing…

If any of the RTO days/hours rumors are true it is likely a 1/1/26 effective date giving enough time for people to leave before, while also relinquishing their bonus in February.

I’m often as pessimistic as they come but feel Thursday will come and go without any of this news. Town halls here are typically are mind numbing and extremely boring these last 4 or 5 years.

@am agreed. Frisco (and DFW as a whole really) is one of the few places that have many more remote jobs compared to other cities.

So it’s already hard enough to find talent there to go hybrid with us, doing a 5 day office or a 4-6 plus daily hourly requirement in office will be a nightmare for HR to fill new roles or future Denver wave roles.

I heard from a reliable source that they’re going to start monitoring time in the office, not necessarily changing amount of days

@ak if they do that then it’ll remove the one more benefit of being hybrid and trying to attract fresh young talent in Frisco.

Other companies many competitors are still hybrid and may have fully remote roles. I just had my last interview externally for a fully remote role while pay is about the same I’ll take it 100% if offered especially if TIAA does the D-MBEST THING EVER and gets rid of 3 day hybrid.

@ag Charlotte can’t handle 5 days in office... yet. Other sites might be able to. So it doesn’t make sense unless some 1-2,000 Charlotte associates are laid off or move to Frisco before October.

I heard that they are going to announce changes to the days in the office. I heard that starting in October that it will be 5 days in the office but not sure if it’s true. I could see 4 days but 5 is asking a lot.
