Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

What was the deal with the Workday severance glitch?

Some are saying it means you're in scope or have already been put on the chopping block.

I know CVX HR lurks here so please issue a communication on this and for once provide some transparency.

I didn’t get a workday notification so I’m either safe or fired 50-50

Don't forget to take 22% off for income tax withholding.

If you need more cash in hand and less in savings before the axe drops then drop your 401k contributions to minimum for matching now.

Workday updates accrued vacation every paycheck. 24 paychecks per year: 0.0833333 weeks/paycheck x 24 paychecks/year = 2 weeks severance/year.

If you think your IRS or Social Security hasn’t been “infiltrated” already….you are way out of touch!!!

WorkPlace has already been taken over by the 16 - 19 y.o. DOGErs that could not get on to infiltrate your records at the IRS and Social Security. No need to worry.

For every paycheck you get 0.085 Years more. Not weeks

@b6+1jmakh92e

That’s actually not correct. It’s not 1 paycheck / yr of service. It’s 2 weeks pay / yr of service.

Simple math example:
$120k salary with 10 yrs of service
1 paycheck / yr of service = 10 paychecks
Each paycheck = $5000
So severance should be $50k

2 weeks pay / yr of service :
$120k / 52 = $2307.69 per week
$2307.69 x 2 weeks x 10 yrs = $46,153.85

If it's WorkDay it's a dynamic calc that should update every paycheck like if does for vacation. For every paycheck you'd get 0.08333 weeks more severance until capping at a year.

It’s a paycheck for every year of service correct? Why the complicated math of bothering to divide by 52?

Just multiply your paycheck by # of yrs you been here.

Scope will not be established until April or May. Names for chopping block are Aug/Sept at the earliest. Some BUs have asked to defer to 2026 because the didn't budget for the high consultant fees in 2025.

Individual BU was supposed to have follow up townhalls to tell you if you’re in scope or not sfter the SETH. we were told no changes to our org through end of year since we already had ROM last year.

It’s because they didn’t put the correct details in the information. More to follow

They haven’t determined who is in scope yet. So the workday severance calculator was available to everyone until they took it down.

The in scope / out of scope work is being done this week.

@aa+1jmakh92e

It might be different because there is a minimum severance calculation for those with fewer time at the company.

you get 2 weeks per year at cvx. if youve been here less than 4 years you automatically get 8 weeks, thats the minimum for this severance package. divide your salary by 52 and multiply it by the number of weeks and thats your package. It caps out at one years worth of pay. this can be found in the HR site.

@a6+1jmakh92e, that’s odd. From what I recall from my number (approaching 2 year anniversary) that amount divided by 2 and then multiplied by 12 doesn’t come close to my current salary.

Am I missing something?

Thanks for the explanation @a6+1jmakh92e,

I also ran the numbers and am good with my increase.

I was told that basically 100% of people would be in scope because the BUs are going away. So the severance glitch has nothing to do with anyone being in scope or out.

@@a6+1jmakh92e - since you seem to know what happened, was it pushed out to everyone or just those in scope? TIA!

They’ll add it back after salary action delivered to employees.

They took it down because the number was based on your new salary after merit and structural adjustments and didn’t want people to back calculate it and figure it out before talking to their supervisors

Note to CVX monitors - if we had better communication, fewer of us would be here trying to get clarity. What a cluster.

From what I was told from my manager, too many questions were being asked and the powers that be decided to remove it.

But who knows.

I saw mine. :(
