I left Chevron a few months ago.
I was miserable. I had a similar story to many of you - pi---d off at how my career was handled despite multiple EEs several years in a row with stellar 360 feedback in a high visibility position.
Instead of becoming a miserable morale ki-ler or one of those sh***y people projecting their anger onto their co workers, I decided I would loathe becoming “that person.”
So I did something about it, took a risk and left a place I thought I’d be at for my entire career and made a leap.
I’m now working on an amazing team solving real problems. While I worked with some truly great people at Chevron, it turns out there are phenomenal people in other companies, too!
Yes, there are trade offs. I’m working five days in office over 50 hours a week, but you know what? I haven’t been this happy and fulfilled in my professional life in quite awhile, not to mention too. The pay wasn’t much different either an even better retirement package.
I say this to encourage those who find themselves becoming the walking bag of
Misery they never thought they’d turn into - this is the sign you were looking for. Take the leap and leave. There are growing companies out there. You only need to take the leap.
And to those Gen X’ers and Boomers crapping on people on this message board for expressing their frustration and, God forbid, how they feel. I hope that during the upcoming layoffs, Chevron takes you out back Ol’ Yeller style.
