Thread regarding IBM layoffs

IBM RA and future employment

Does IBM RA mean you cannot apply to IBM or its subsidaries for any role in the future ?
Does your profile get marked as non-hire once you are let go on RA ?

Back when I was given my ra notice I was told I can look internally for another position. But once your name is on the ra list the odds sl--e to none you would get another position

As part of the separation process your manager is required to make a selection within the IBM application. Can't recall the statement, but it is something like 'recommended for rehire - Yes/No. So if you leave for poor performance or under a cloud then there is no way back.

Well, you know what they say... RA me once, shame on you. RA me twice, shame on me.

I'm going to try to actually answer your question. Plenty of people come back. The rules differ by country , but generally if your performance has been acceptable (i.e. not a "low" or "needs improvement rating) you can come back after any separation period or notice period expires, or you'll need to pay it back. In non-US countries, you might only be able to return in a different role since an RA is usually processed as a "redundancy" which means the job should no longer exist.

so many companies su-k, but ibm really su-ks. if there were a su-king contest, ibm would win. su-king is probably the only thing ibm does best. everything about it su-ks. the products su-k, the management su-ks, and the constant threat of being raed su-ks. it's nothing but su-king when you work there. and if you want to get ahead there, you need to su-k too. just ask that co-k su-ka rt.

Why would you want too after what they did to you?

When someone gets let go, he/she is informed if he/she is eligible for re-hire or not. It is part of the supplied stack of garbage hands at exit time.

Why in the world would you want to apply such a horrible company? They kicked you out because they thought you were worthless, No insult intended.. I was kicked out after 25 yrs as a top rated employee, received stock bonuses, the "presidents award" etc. In the end it meant absolutely nothing, Why go back there,? Life outside IBM is way better than waiting for the next RA. I have no idea how IBM is even still in business Applying for a job post-IBM was a challenge due to no one using their cr-ppy products. My experience was tainted by being from IBM, not a bonus by any means, Do not plan to go back, you'll only get kicked out again, Find a happier place at anything that is not IBM. And if you haven't been kicked out yet, prepare to be. Learn non-IBM tools and be ready for the real wold.
