Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Fun with Math

The below is said in jest, and is probably not something anyone should or would actually do. Also, it would only truly work if someone lived VERY close to the office.

Go to office @ 7:00 am. Leave office at 7:05…..

Go home.

Come back at 2:55, badge in.

Leave at 3:00

First badge in 7:00 am
Last badge out 3:00 pm

Calculated time in office: 8 hours

Actual time in office: 10 minutes

This would work perfectly if I still lived a 15-minute walk from the office.

Save a trip by going in / out @ 11:55 then repeat @ 12:05.

@a9 exactly this. I live 7 mins away and it’s just too much of a hassle to go back and forth. I’ll just hang around all day I guess

Let's be serious. What about taking off to a dentist or doctor or whatever appointment for two hours? How granular are they? I honestly think much of this is a scare tactic -aka: terrorism. And we're all terrified no doubt.

Unfortunately this will not work. Manager disclosed that a continuous X hours (depending on business) of WF network connection is required.

@a9 Not necessarily. While this is no longer the case, I used to live right by my office site. Literally less than 10 minutes from my front door to my desk. Makes me wish I hadn’t moved for cheaper rent lol!

@a8 the header might say that, but could easily be either. Some people use byod or VID, etc. Or arent on computers all day long.

This would require driving to and from the office twice a day. At some point it becomes easier to just go to the office and waste time there.

I think the more effective way to push back against this is by using the in-office requirement to as a rationale to draw firm boundaries on your start-stop time and not taking calls outside the hours. WF wants to treat white collar workers like hourly employees, act like one.

@a6

I have seen the report - this is not a matter of speculation.
The 8 hour was specifically “first login activity” column.

@a4 thought total time was from badge in to badge out….now I’ll have to add an extra 10 minutes for getting to and from the desk at the start and end of the day.

The lunacy here never stops.

@a4 I'm not suggesting anybody do what OP says. But what I was told is first and last badge swipe of the day. And network will come into it too since some locations you don't have to badge out.

@OP

Your analysis is flawed for many reasons.

  1. Many corporate offices has no badge out.
  2. Your 8 hour is tracked by first login to company network and disconnection time to company network.

Your analysis will work if you won’t have to use your laptop at home and just leave your laptop on a desk idle .

This is also assuming they are not tracking activity on laptop.

Contrary to some misinformation on this forum -for corporate employees not facing client - 8 hour is only tracked by network login, your ID badging is irrelevant.
ID badging is only for RTO 3 days or 4 days.

That COULD be the ultimate coffee badge trick!

Theoretically, it works, UNLESS they are also tracking ip addresses as well.
