If our team was already impacted, are the rest of us safe? Our manager is saying nothing.

@ah why be vague on an anonymous forum? Give us names! Who do I need to protect myself from???
WARN also doesn't apply if severance is more than a certain number of weeks
@ar we are a mutual company- we are not a non profit
@aw Not True - WARN act applies to any company, regardless if they are public, private, or mutual. My guess is this will be 249 employees PER OFFICE or less, to avoid having to report this 60 days prior to the RIF. Anybody that was based out of Naperville, Chicago, Pilsen, etc are "separate" reductions in force. If they do another round within 90 days, those numbers are cumulative, so mark your calendars for Dec 24th ;)
@ar
Actually the WARN act does apply to nonprofits and to mutually owned companies (like HCSC). Go ahead and look it up. Google is pretty clear about it.
@as this was an email I received after U asked. Kelly is not monitoring this forum in case I caused confusion.
@ar Wrong. It is based on the number of employees, not corporate structure.
At this time, DCEO has not received WARN correspondence from HCSC.
In general, WARN obligations are tied to employer size and the impact of a layoff, not the ownership structure. The Illinois Department of Labor oversees WARN compliance. If you believe your employer has violated WARN requirements, you may submit a complaint form to IDOL for investigation.
DCEO can connect you to resources for reemployment and training. Our network of providers offers a Dislocated Worker Program that includes no-cost training and job search assistance. Attached is a flyer with more information, and here is a link to the nearest American Job Center.
Additionally, workers impacted by layoffs may file a claim for unemployment insurance benefits.
Sincerely,l

THE WARN ACT DOES NOT APPLY TO NON-PROFITS LIKE HCSC FFS!
@an inaccurate how?? I responded to the question if anyone remote is impacted. YES! Remote folks are impacted and the majority of people that I PERSONALLY know that were let go yesterday were remote. I’m not saying in office isn’t impacted or remote is targeted, just saying remote is impacted!
@aj the only layoffs I have been made aware of thus far are long term high level legacy, in office.
Anyone remote impacted yet?
@aa inaccurate
@aj not true
@ae HCSC is required to adhere to WARN if it meets the requirements of WARN act. Like most comments, unless it reaches 50 or more full-time employees at a single site of employment, (1/3 total full-time workforce at that site) or 500 or more at a single site (i.e. Richardson HQ or Chicago HQ). Given most of the impacts are likely out of the Richardson or Chicago offices, I doubt it reaches the 500 at either site.
@a5 it is for remote employees that transitioned in march from cigna
I find it fascinating that a certain Director who has had multiple HR complaints and has caused serious trauma and hurt to many employees is still here safe and sound. It is disgusting. I need HCSC to stop claiming to be one of the most ethical companies out there. It's gross.
@a2 That is for sure. The former Executive Director of Cigna's Group Medicare was let go. He had a TON of people under him and was reporting to the VP of Group Medicare Sales. The other former Cigna employees like my boss are absolutely shell shocked and were blind sided.
@ae That is not true
@ac HCSC is not required to adhere to WARN criteria as it is nonpublic.
@OP heard target is up to 5 percent let go.
I think we are over estimating the number of people getting laid off. I think the threshold is 250 for a company as big as hcsc. probably 249 people are actually getting laid off. Previous rifs, hcsc give the warning because previous rifs were bigger. Hcsc doesn't like to break the law.
@a9 can someone confirm this if they did indeed sc--w up I don want to sign my severance before talking to a lawyer.
@a5 yes - the majority I know of that were let go yesterday are remote.
@a7 WARN applies to a fixed location, typically. If X number of people from Y location (meaning actual reporting office, not just state) are being laid off, then the act comes into play, otherwise if those employees are spread out across different locations and states it does not apply. This was my understanding
@a7 I looked at all 5 states and not a single one had HCSC on the WARN lists.
Does the WARN act not apply in this scenario? If roughly 500 employees are being affected, isn't HCSC required to give notice? I still don't see a public statement or any information aside from the anonymous tips here.
Managers don’t know. No information has been given to them.
Has anyone Remote been laid off? Is this just in office employees so far?
He-l no!
Nope.
@OP none of the Cigna conveyed staff are safe.
