Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Nike stock price. Is it a reflection of the company and brand?

Just think, it was trading near 170 five years ago. Today it’s trading at 45. Make your own conclusions.

@OP

I mean….obviously. How could it not be at this point? I worked in smaller companies, studios and agencies before a 9 year career at Nike.

From day 1 what blew me away was how little actual work was being done by teams that were “busy”. I was used to practical, hands on creation of ideas, executions, videos, images, etc.

My experience was routinely misunderstood and downplayed every step of the way. Because of the ignorance and frankly - basic af normy leaders that couldn’t fathom doing anything other than what they learned at W&K before being at Nike, or vice versa, or who even cares.

Nike has way too many reviewers, and no doers. Doers are actively and passively sidelined for imbeciles. They have made their bed, and now they are lying in it.

I have no ill will towards these mo--ns that still work there who operate this way still, but I have no remorse at all for Nike’s woes. These arrogant chuckle fu--s need to eat more humble pie and work on the outside, where they will get chewed up and sp-t out by harder working, more technically capable workers who are all hungrier and more employable.

Leaving Nike was one of the best decisions from all my years there. I hope the good people cash out ASAP before it gets worse, and after the good people cash out, I hope the stock goes to $0.

Been at Nike for 5 years and one pattern keeps showing up. Constant pendulum swings. Brand vs. Performance, Direct vs. Wholesale. Full price vs. Discount. Tech vs. Business. Remote vs. In-person.

We treat these as binary choices, then overcorrect to the other

It’s a combination of both. They keep selling us this dream that if we work hard enough, we will turn this ship around. Mind you, the reason the ship was sinking in the first place was because of them. We’re stuck with old VPs who are out of touch, constantly parading how we need to be in office to get back to the glory days. They can’t even get seating figured out as there aren’t enough seats/people, but demand butts in seats. EH canceling WW, then crying about it after. It’s all a game of charades. You’re either aware of the decline, or your job is attached to your personality and you dismiss it and down more kool-aid. We will always be the most popular footwear company, but our days of innovating have halted. Instead we’re left hyping up the legacy of who we once were

Its a reflection of the leadership..

JD got us in the mess with among the stupidest own goal business strategies in modern history. The remaining leadership* have shown they do not have the acumen to dig us out

You heard yesterday from the source: get excited and innovate. How the fu-k are people supposed to get excited and innovate when their jobs are threatened every 7 months? How do they expect people to get engaged when the priorities change faster than that?

Its the most predictable outcome there ever was

I think it’s a reflection of our work and what we’ve focused on. There is many scopes of work I’ve been apart of over the past two years that I didn’t feel moved the needle but “moved the work”.

I think my leaders are getting this message now (past 3 months) but I really hope it isn’t too late. We have good scopes of work out there that I feel will move the needle that are now getting traction. But this is just my business unit. Not sure if everyone else is noticing the change.
