We pay our dues and when the contract is due, another benefit gets eliminated. Why do union leaders make so much money and NOT produce for the members?

@sm I am
@sj anyone here at 69 is here because they want to be, not because they have to be.
Average associate retirement age is 69. So sad you will expire soon after. Love those golden years. 😂
@OP To busy eating lunches and golfing at your expense
@cb interesting fact. Union gave loan back to itself from the Strike fund. Been paying itself back. For years. Principle only. Do a search. Dare ya. You won’t be happy. Paying for overspent budgets internally. And that’s been approved by a whole bunch of people. Do a search. Then come back and tell us why there’s no strike.
@OP they get paid to sc--w their own members! Way to lookout for the retirees a-s hats!
@dc true enough. Once upon a time, there was a similar argument made to stay union. Now, it's just a bunch of weak, scared children.
It's time to either reform or abolish this twisted husk of an organization that takes our money and gives us nothing in return.
I vote for destruction. Sc--w those that came before me like they sc--wed us
@OP. If you think the union serves no purpose and dues are a waste the logical step one would take is to become a manager. Why not do that? Your due paying days would then be over. No more whining needed. You would have achieved nirvana. You would (in theory) be able to negotiate better pay, healthcare, retirement healthcare, 401k match, tuition reimbursement, WFH or any other term of employment you may wish to receive. This has always been how it is. Look at how well it has worked for them. Some do very well. Like Dan for example. The world is you oyster now is the time. You seem very unhappy. Seize the day and exercise your freedom.
@cb Sssshhhh. They like sheep and their sub_ED lower tier leadership are kept loyal Yes-men?
@a4 maybe you can say that now. At this rate, it won't be much longer before you won't be able to.
@ce. There you go again with such horrible grammar. Your sentences crack all of us up. I must have struck a nerve for you to bring in mommy, maternity and trophy’s. Keep posting! We can’t get enough of your intelligence!
@bg that sounds about right “ taking a job that some young guy should have”
Not one you actually earned.
But let me guess mommy always made sure you got a trophy just for showing up..probably got you your job… even though she really wanted a girl that why she encouraged you to transition.
But don’t worry I am sure Verizon will let you use the woman restroom. While the union makes sure you get time off for maternity leave
Come on you don’t know why we pay Union dues ….so we can protect the lazy ones that love the Union. The ones that don’t like the Union are the ones that actually do the work. The people in here that are praising the union are the ones who needed it the most. Either because they’re terrible workers they’re lazy or they getting in trouble so much they need the Union’s protection He-l where else but Verizon could you do so little to nothing and still have a job. The city works are so lazy up state was forced away from there family’s so work would get done. All of you that read this, for once be honest, if Verizon really knew what little the majority of the union employees did they wouldn’t have even bothered giving us a contract extension and tried getting rid of about half us instead
Make no mistake it wasn’t the senior guys that failed us it was our union.
Our union doesn’t strike because they would have to dip into that strike fund. Who gets that if we don’t use it?
And what did we get with this new contract really?
We didn’t even get a true cost of living raise.
Dock worker got an 80% raise
Auto workers 50% raise
UPS Drivers 170000 a year, on top of that if they file a grievance and win they get paid
USPS union members also get paid if they file a
Grievance and win
What happens with us if we file a Grievance and win “ sorry we won’t do it again until next time that we do it”
Our union has no teeth.
If you are one of the few that actually works at Verizon you’re better off heading down south and getting a new job.
What benefit got eliminated this time?
@a5 what is your “professional” role at Verizon? Is it really “professional”?
If you don’t know why we pay union dues, leave! Go work somewhere where there is no union and you will find out. This post is trash. Quit crying! Go do something worth all that energy you spewing out! Go!
@a5. Did you graduate from high school? Your terrible grammar is very noticeable in everything that you post. Keep trolling for our entertainment. It’s fun to point you out.
@a4. What if you got laid off and you were paying dues for 10 years? Is that still a good deal?
@a8 i bet you voted for the contract that gave away the pension. go F yourself dinosaur. you are taking a job that some young guy should have
@aj
No management here
Just an average Joe who got lied to
I'm looking for a job in a right-to-work state so I can get away from these b@ck st@bbers once and for all
@a9 the ibew electricians laugh at the the telecom technicians.
The real question is - does the upper management start these posts to get working class people fighting each other, to distract from the fact that a half dozen C suiters at the top make $80 million a year, and their only ideas to make the stock price go up is to lay people off?
@a8 keep dreaming and dont hold your breath. Frankly, as for now, a current Verizon white-collar employee, I have no tears for the craft union.
Look at AFA who can’t get a United contract 6 years after expiration. Real question is why are they paying?
@a9 a very intelligent answer, mo--n
Go become a plumber or electrician. Dont work here
@a4 so I am paying dues not to get laid off. really smart, while the union leadership make 6 figures x 3. And when in comes contract time, they fold and give in because they don't want to pay it's members. As a member, that is terrible. I am in 35 years and it just gets worse, they are supposed to protect the members.
@a5 look at timeline from previous post, our leadership sux!!!
2008 the healthcare went away for new hires
2012 the pension went away
2016 techs started to become anti union and cross the line
2019 extended this cr-p
2022 techs become completely anti union. They threaten to cross the line if there’s a strike and give up on the rest of the union.
2026 why should I care if there no union in the union.
@a4 indeed a good deal if you can continue to remain gainfully employed!!! For the craft union better in contrast to white-collar Verizon jobs.
@OP:
1.) how many years have you been paying the "required" union dues?
2.) how much are the bi-weekly union dues??
3.) what make you ponder, believe, feel, that within the current environment, Verizon's shrinking market share, that the union is going to be able negotiate something better at a rate of increase??
As white-collar professionals there is absolutely no empathy nor sympathy to the perks that the craft members believe thus having accessibility to corporate entitlement programs. The craft union at Verizon needs to be expunged!!!
you pay dues primarly to not get laid off. pretty good deal if you ask me
