Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Remote Employees, Get Ready

It's coming. They're going to do it. They're gonna say we are a co-located company first, and you have 6 months to get back into an office or you're considered voluntarily terminated.

Start saving now and always have a plan. Juan doesn't care about remote employees.

@a5 I mean no disrespect but you’re posting anonymous. If you know this for a fact, it would be appreciated if you could provide additional information. Unless you know enough and if discussed, it could be narrowed down to who shared it.

Life is stressful as is, so whether remote or not, your health and loved ones are the most important things in life! Please don’t be affected by things you have no control over and please do not invest emotionally into work or this company - all the so-called mission moments are just there to make you working over time to keep EMGs in their big paychecks!

@bc so go file for social security. You filed 60 times?? Jesus more work than you do for our company. Seriously, these are the people that need to be rooted out of this company.

I am fully remote and it doesn't help to stress over this for now. Life is too short to live in fear.

Due to medical conditions, I submitted a work accommodation regarding my remote status since after 60 (YES 60) applications internally in the last 3 years came to nothing. They basically denied it saying I was already a remote employee and it was unnecessary to document the request.

I later had an interview with a recruiter about a position and he said they were only accepting on-site applicants. I mentioned my accommodation request and he held his ground. At the time it seemed like a friendly enough conversation, but I always give people the benefit of the doubt. I shouldn't have, because his parting comment was, "Okay, now you can go back to watching television or cooking dinner..."

Remote employees THAT is how USAA looks at you.

Can we put this in the category of “let’s cross that bridge if / when it comes?” If you have actual knowledge that’s more than welcome but this all sounds like speculation or a “best guess”

Where there is smoke, there is fire. This has been discussed since 2023, Wayne was furious about RTO not being met and remote employees refusing to move closer to an office, main reason why a lot of remote employees were not promoted, plan was to drive them to quit, and never happened.

Juan is not in favor of remote work, I do expect an announcement on this sometime this year, my guess is June.

@a7 you’re remote therefore you find the bias. They have laid off entire teams before. Entire departments. God damn real estate laid off all their EO’s a couple years ago. I’m sorry, no there would not be a hole. They would have already set up a team working in office doing the work or very similar work. When you suspect it coming it will already be too late.

@a7 as someone who’s been seeking / applying to remote roles for the last year. I can honestly say there may be postings. Very few are actually hiring. They are evergreen roles that serve more like paid advertisements on LinkedIn. I’m not saying there’s zero. But these roles that are actually being hired for are less than 1% at this point.

This doesn’t sound like a good decision even if it’s true. As far as I know under our SVP, we have around 15% people remote. I don’t know the enterprise number. If all those people decides to quiet, we will have a big problem. Half of my department is remote. State Farm did that with their forced relocation and they lost a significant amount of tenured employees. They’ve been a downward spiral ever since. Think about this logically - this is not the remote employee’s decision along. Most of their spouses also work so at least one of them will lose their job anyway. This is exactly what happened to State Farm. Tenured employees were forced to move to one of the new hubs and they said, well it’s either me or my spouse so fu-k this. This is not really gonna work out well for USAA nor the employees.

This is fear mongering. Some teams are mostly remote and the remote population is big enough that when eliminated, there would be a big hole at USAA. I am fully remote and don't care anymore if terminated, I still see a lot of remote opportunities in my line of work or apply locally. USAA is not the only company and certainly not the be all end all.

I can't say anymore but it's coming this year. Most likely announcement in the spring or early summer, with a drop date of Sept like they did with RTO. posting from a vpn

Are you taking a guess this will happen? Or do you have knowledge that this is actually going to happen?
