For those who are affected by, do we have the option to find an internal role within the company? Or is this it?

@a6

At some point you have to do the work that pays the bills, whether you like the job or not.

Because you will HATE unemployment.

There aren't/won't be any open roles to apply to. Groups that currently have open positions will give those up for the RIF so they can keep the people they have.

@a8 I was riffed last year, found an internal position, but not through any help from HR or my current leader at the time (even though they hinted they would help)...... I grinded through interview after interview, but in the end, it was the network I had built over the 20+ years that helped me land the new job. This time will be harder as there are literally no management jobs available this time around. Good luck to us all!

I know two people who got riffed and landed new roles wishing 90 day off-ramp period.

However it was during a smaller reorgs non full blown layoffs. Will depend if they will post new roles in the next 60-90 days

I know people who were laid off other times and managed to find something else in the company within the window. But they were exceptional people that the company had no business laying off. It was one of those department moves to another state and move or get laid off deals. They stayed, lost their jobs but found other ones quick because they were great people. Doubt there are as many great people left here. I work with some but there is still dead weight that spends its days creating presentations for executives.

I took a $50,000 plus sipp voluntary severance offer after working for AT&T for over 22 years as an outside tech, and also had central office experience. After leaving I used prior experience on my resume and found a job as an avionics technician and later as a NOCC technician for a government FAA contract. Later went back to an avionics bench technician job. You’ll find a job, might not pay what Verizon pays though. Don’t give up.

I've seen, worked with, and worked for several people over the years who were riffed and got other internal positions within the 30 days. So it's definitely possible...when there are positions to apply to.

But if you look at the job listings right now, you will only see a ton of retail, 3 associate union positions, and 6 corporate positions, 3 or 4 of which are in Reading, UK.

I've been in this company for decades now (yes, longer than most). I've personally NEVER heard of anyone being riffed who actually landed another internal position within the 30 day window. Maybe it's happened but if it did it was the 'exception' and not the rule! HR will blow that smoke up your a##, but it won't happen. Your better off looking elsewhere.

Sharing what I've seen first hand. Believe me...don't believe me...hey, what do I know.

I wouldn’t recommend it unless you know it’s a role you’d really like. Don’t stay for the sake of staying, do the work you love, don’t fall in love with a company

All jobs got frozen and eventually canceled about a month ago. This was calculated move. Your chance to find something internal would be close to 0 if you even get the opportunity to keep the laptop which you will be asked to hand right away this time

Verizon has done rifs before where you are given the option to reapply for an internal role within 30 days. Whether or not that's this case this time, remains to be seen. If I had to guess I'd say no cuz becuase they need money for an aggressive cell site build out next year. 5g left alot holes in their coverage and they need to fill em in to catch up with TMO.

There arent really any job openings posted unless you want to shift into direct sales. (EG sales rep, a-s dist mgr, etc)

So while it MIGHT be possible to job hop, there arent really any options available..

@OP I have a feeling if you're on the RIF list you’re gone. The CEO wants to clean house and wants new blood in the organization.
