I left Verizon last year Sept. (2024), I'm still out of work. A co-worker of mine was laid off in 2023 (Nov.), her last day worked was March, 2024. She was just rehired by VZ as a contractor in a different role. The job market is not good, buckle up for a long and arduous process. After watching Elon Musk's interview on Joe Rogan's podcast, he explained that the focus (here in America) is building an AI work force. Unless you're artificially intelligent or skilled in that field, you will be out of luck!

@ac I tell all young people to not major in IT unless they are focusing on AI , LLM, cyber security etc. I left in 2019 with the VSP and found a job with a good company in 2020 after taking 9 months off. Unfortunately the IT industry is not looking good right now. If you have the time, energy, etc to train in the areas above if you want a future in this field.

@a8 Age discrimination is rampant in tech fields. Hard to get new employment once you hit 40. That's why I steer young people away from engineering and tech fields. The deck i stacked against you.

Friend who worked in VBG took the VSP and departed in March…accepted a contractor job in August. He’s still trying to land a perm job. It’s tough out there.

I got laidoff a couple years ago. After 1.5 years looking i quit the job search and retired. Age does make a difference but as a whole the job market is cr-p.

16 month search here. Expect crickets with hiring slowdown from Nov to Mar. After over 200 resume submission, 100 or so callbacks and emails and correspondence, a few single digit select final round interviews, my new company has me wait an additional 3 months for headcount approval.
