My boss told me, and I quote, “to fill specific roles that support the company’s changing needs.” The funny thing is, most of the openings I see aren’t new or tied to AI. They’re the same roles that were just emptied out by layoffs in the past few months. Go figure.

@OP Maybe they’re getting rid of the highest paid staff.
@a8 I left VZ GNT a year ago so that I didn't have to constantly worry about losing my job. I have a mortgage and kids in private school -- this layoff drama gets old fast. Got a union job at a city utility and never looked back.
My old boss recently tried to hire me back as a contractor through an India-based staffing company. I honestly felt sorry for her... what a sad offer to make to a demonstrated high-performer who left to find more stable employment.
I wished her all the best.
@at seen mass hiring of contractors in marketing, CX, and technical roles. This was to replace agency support supposedly, but it’s not working out at all. A few of them got converted to FTEs (one got AD role), and he wasn’t showing up for schedule project calls or performing in his roles. The other contractors performing even worse and MIA most of the work day.
There’s also been a lot of hiring in India to support these same projects. All of them are failing badly and completely disorganized. Pretty sure it started with the idea that we’d be saving money, and now we’re just throwing more money at it to try and save a sinking ship. Wouldn’t mind if all of them just got laid off (or contracts cancelled) so we could make sure the money we spend actually produces something and hits a deadline. The directors over these projects seem panicked to find saving and offshore and insource this year, and this was even before the CEO change.
Not sure what has been going on, but we should just go back to BAU which was working much better. Last thing we need is to have a bunch of failing projects and increased headcount to draw a bunch of negative attention to our teams. We might have been only cut 10-15%, now maybe they just cut all of us because they won’t know where to point fingers. Feels like I’m sitting on a bus I know is going to crash.
Hardly any type of internal hiring. Usually past layoffs there were some internal postings. Only retail sales and a few vbg sales roles posted. This layoff us different
The simple answer is, recruiters haven’t been laid off yet, so until they’re laid off they will continue pretending that the company is hiring. I have seen three separate occasions where this has been bottlenecked at the offer stage. Ultimately everything is on a freeze. If you’ve seen something different please let me know.
The only spots hiring are retail stores that are below the minimum staffing levels to be able to operate their store
I think it just shows how chaotic and disorganized things are right now and its gonna take a while for things to settle
The plan is to hire people back as contractors to keep from paying benefits. The medical benefits are “crushing” the company per the ruling class.
The reality is they want to push out older people that are paid well. A vp of finance joked just last year that vsp takers should be backfilled by cheaper young people to meet the targets. Open discrimination and delight in whatever it takes to get their VP bonus.
