Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Business is Business

First, I am sad to hear about the extensive layoffs at Target.

After reading these posts it seems like half your company walks around with rainbow mohawks. If you would just concentrate on selling what people want in a clean store you should be able to stomp Walmart, but no... you had to try and be a DEI/social justice warrior. It feels like you are going to get robbed just walking into Walmart (some literally have police presence 24/7), and people are choosing that over your stores - let that sink in. Please please please get back to core business, I am rooting for you believe it or not.

@dj Kinda odd that the highest upvoted comment in this thread is the one saying that they're also fed up with their Target co-workers being immature.

@dg that’s bc Target has good marketing and ppl have really strong emotions when it’s even brought up. No one cares about paramount like that. Everyone already disliked Amazon. So ofc ppl are going to be more interested and talking about Target in a more emotional manner. That’s why you’re in this space as well :)))

@dg you and I and out there arguing about a company we don’t even work for instead of working for the ones we do so that should pretty much sum up the internet for you. Don’t rely on anonymous websites as sources of “truth” or an actual representation of anything lol

@df Why don't I think it's all trolling? Because I don't see the same immature behaviour elsewhere. Target seems to stand out among the crowd.

@dd no I don’t think making a joke and calling a ceo satan is immature. I do it to Jeff bezos and all ceos!! It’s called having a sense of humor.its actually quiet funny and freeing 10/10 would recommend. But also I’m sorry but as soon you start asking chapgbt to “read” and “analyze” a tone of anything you kinda lose credibility ( if you ask chatgbt anything really). You might think it’s rude and immature bc a lot of ppl don’t worship companies like they use to but I think that’s actually a great thing and creates an emotional separation between work and life. A lot of posts here aren’t even by ppl who work for the company anyways ( like your posts) so what makes you so sure you know the posts you’re reading are by employees and not trolls from Reddit trying to get reactions?

@da You don't think comparing the CEO to Satan is immature? I do.

I'm quite serious about the tone here. It's very immature. Complaining is one thing, but it's all pure emotional whining and acting like a spoiled brat. It's all the typical "hot takes" you find on reddit designed to stir up emotion, doom and gloom, and little else. I even ran a bunch of posts from this group through ChatGPT for a second opinion on the tone. It completely agreed, and quoted the very posts that I thought were written by "petulant children".

By contrast go on over to the Paramount section, and you'll find a very different, more mature discussion. There's an entire thread of people who posted stories about how their lives improved after leaving Paramount. Many of them clearly written by people with a high degree of emotional maturity and who don't just "react" like I see here. Nobody is HAPPY their about being laid off, but the reaction to it is quite different.

It seems like many Target employees are caught in their own world can't see outside it. The original post I wrote is about 50/50 positive/negative. Which says a LOT on its own. Plenty of Target employees see the same thing as I do, but just don't want to say it to your face. Because of the anonymity, this is one of the few places you'll get honestly.

@a8 the thing is Fiddelke isn’t a banker or PE guy. Mid tier Finance mind at best and TGT is not necessarily known as being world class at Finance lol

Still stuck with retail accounting as well with its books

@a3 you might be dense on purpose but it’s very silly to say the employees are immature bc they are complaining. If you think this response is immature don’t go to TikTok where all the Amazon employees are also making jokes and complaining. And if you think this is immature definitely never go to Reddit for anything

Target’s demise was elongated by drive up in COVID. We all knew this was coming. Decades of copying Walmart or Amazon and never innovating anything. COVID giving the stores a pass to be open while everyone sat at home created artificial gains.

This place was on Kmart trajectory since BC took over. It’s just clear as day that Mike is here to use his finance mind to get the good non-essential assets sold off, debt lessened, and bondholders paid.

If you are under 40, you owe it to yourself to quit. The way things are done outside of Target is much faster, more aggressive, and far more successful than within. Do NOT allow yourself to spend 10+ years becoming institutionalized into Target’s way of doing things—you will never be able to work at reputable companies!

@a3 trust me, not all of us act the way you are describing, and are equally as fed up with the immaturity of some of our peers. They are the ones burning down the bullseye from within. Target TM age has gone down, and with it the professionalism, work ethic, productivity and respect. It’s hard to watch the company you worked at for 20 years change so drastically over the past 5,6,7 years or so.

@a3 there was a lot of trolls that infiltrated this space

A large percent of posts here behave like petulant children.

The sense I get from the posts is that many corporate Target employees are extremely immature. One guy compares the CEO to the devil himself, and many bring up Trump for no particular reason. Another post complains how Amazon employees got more notice! Oh no! Not Fair!

If I go over and visit the folks on Paramount, it's a different story. No devil comparisons, no blaming. Same semi-justified worries over a 2nd round.

Grow up Target employees. We can see you.
