Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Who’s posted for roles and who’s waiting?

9/2 is the date the tool closes. I know they know where everyone going where. The 3 choices are only formality. The new leaders pick their team. A lot of politics involved

EOI’d. Figured I may as well get paid a bundle before they inevitably offshore more jobs in the next few years and don’t pay anything.

I posted for two jobs. Couldn’t find a third that I thought I’d be competitive in. Prayed and turned it all over.

Posted one PSG up for my current role. Why start low on a similar role, in the same group? Other selections are lower odds, but why place my bet on the same manager. I am feeling lucky. Well the odds for us are better than P Ball. Now that would be nice!

I wanted to leave but they made my job out of scope so I could not. I was still on the fence during the aeoi phase.
Now it’s a complete $hit show in my department.
Get out while you can, the ship is sinking. Start over at a new place.

@ba+1k408mx85. As Wyclef Jean once said - That was then, this is now.

I put in for three bundled roles which had multiple in each. If I don’t snag one of those, I might have to go back to the minor leagues.

I prefer to leave this he-l hole on my own terms and happily pushed that get me the eff outta here button as fast as I could. There’s no point posting bc as many have stated, those selected are already decided. I chose a role that will have the most applicants. HR is such a toxic cess pool of back stabbing and favorites; can’t wait to detox my soul after putting in 20 yrs.

Good luck everyone!!!

@ba A total fantasy that is completely disconnected from reality, a fake story to take a dig at supposed DEI employees from someone who simply can’t compete on the merits.

@ba, I’d be interested to hear more about how 2020 went down.

I did the selections in 2020 and I can confirm, we were in and out in about an hour instead of a whole day. Our VP basically made all the DEI selections for us and we just did as he told us.

It’s really hard to tell how many jobs have been cut in the US … vague org charts keep everything in the dark. In my org they refused to answer the question how many positions …. Sounds like most roles spoken for so if your job is gone you better be in good with high level job owners.

I posted Friday. Like others have said, I get the feeling that selections have already been largely decided. Excessive discussions with the selection rep and/or overthinking which roles to apply to seemed to have rapidly diminishing value. It was a bit nerve wracking to push “submit” but once I did, it was a relief. Good luck to all, and remember there is life outside cvx.

There are so few positions available compared to the number of people applying, the chances of getting a job are small.
Most of the posted positions have already identified the person they want in the position.
The selection process is disappointing and only fair by HR standards. Chevron is replacing US employees with lower paid overseas staff. It should be against the law but the U.S. does not protect their workforce.

Best of luck to all who are posting. I was in the first half, took the same approach but ended up left standing. Do not get me wrong here, it did get scary, however it has turned out to be the one of the best things that ever happened to me. Do not let these over-empowered goose steppers lower your perceived self worth. The selections are political and not reasonable, economic, or rational. Don't even try to make sense of it if you are not selected as it's just an emotional and mental death spiral. If you are successful, good, but keep your resume up to date. If you are not selected, you will have time to collect yourself and find a better job somewhere else and they are there.

That’s how I’m feeling. Would be nice if it was more based on what you’ve been able to achieve, not who likes who.

I posted Wednesday. Pressure dropped a fair bit.

Thought process is basically:

I did some great things for the Company. I’ve got my past experience pre-Chevron. I gave it my all. If I don’t make it, I’ll move on to a Company where I am appreciated.

Post and you’ll feel better.
