Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

A Few Good Leaders

We attended the HR functional town hall last month and debrief sessions this week. Our leaders tried their very best to answer the questions but their responses were still vague and high level.

Thanks to our GM who conducted an informal follow up employee session to provide more context and make it more real for us by bringing the discussion closer to home. She provided practical examples on how to navigate through all these changes. While the probability of losing my job is high, I appreciate our GM offering support like reviewing our talent cards and LinkedIn profiles. Also, I have noticed that almost everyday, she takes a few minutes to walk around and check on people. Thank you, these leadership gestures are truly appreciated. At the end, we still have a few good leaders in the company.

You are correct, most of Chevron leaders manage up and leave their employees behind. If Chevron management took an active role in listening to ideas from their staff they would be able to make improvements but the lower managers only manage their own career success.

“I can almost guarantee what backstabbing GM you’re referring to here.”

Agree! All of them are of the backstabbing variety, so which one are you talking about?

I call bullsh*t. I can almost guarantee I know what backstabbing GM you’re referring to here. Did she give you an R&A for posting? It’s a dog and pony show with only her favorites advancing. The rest of us will just fade away…

I left the company during wave 1. My supervisor did not even say goodbye to me even via text. Too afraid to have those direct and honest conversations. She was reappointed to her job, I wish her new team the very best. She epitomizes the winning behaviors- throwing people under the bus, managing up, and intimidating people. Way to go Chevron!

My manager refuses to have conversations and talks in circles.

Thank you for sharing this. Let’s give credit where credit is due. Unfortunately, not my case, my manager is always MIA.
