Why do some FTR employees have a “sponsor”listed under them in Vz org chart and some don’t? Any ideas?

Were they or their managers contractors at FTR? At VZ, contractors have sponsors who handle all activity that has to be managed or approved by a VZ-retained employee.
@ab unfortunately there will be FTR riffs
@b5 You're very welcome.
@an Thank you for the insight and professional response.
@a7 but it's supposed to be anonymous
@OP In Verizon (Vz) org charts, the "Sponsor" field often appears for employees in specific programs (like leadership development, high-potential talent pools, or certain transition roles) or for those needing dedicated career guidance, while others not in these tracks (standard roles, individual contributors) might not show one, reflecting structured talent management vs. routine positions, or maybe just data entry variance in older systems.
Here's a breakdown of potential reasons:
High-Potential (HiPo) / Leadership Programs: Employees selected for formal development programs often get assigned a senior leader as a sponsor for guidance, advocacy, and career opportunities.
Talent Pools / Succession Planning: Individuals identified as critical for future leadership roles are frequently sponsored to accelerate their growth.
Critical Roles: Sometimes, senior leaders sponsor individuals in key, hard-to-fill, or transition roles to ensure smooth onboarding and success, notes an internal Verizon blog post on talent development.
Special Projects / Rotations: Employees on unique assignments might have sponsors for specific project success, as seen on this Verizon careers page.
System/Data Entry Discrepancies: The org chart might be incomplete, or the system might not assign sponsors universally, especially for non-managerial or entry-level positions.
Informal vs. Formal: Some may have informal mentors, but only formal, system-tracked programs show up as "Sponsor" in the official chart.
Essentially, it usually signals a deliberate investment in that employee's career trajectory by the company, beyond just their direct manager.
Have you ever seen a company buy a smaller company and the smaller company folk end up running things? I have , several times , in this industry even
because they alcoholics / AA members, same as most VZ employees
