Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

What are you asking your selection representative?

My first re-org and I have no idea how these conversations go. What questions are you asking?

Thanks for your feedback

No way someone I DONT know has my back when I’m just 1 of 30+ randoms under them. I rather make my own life decisions than go by what a stranger says. Not like my rep has been of any use

I guess better to have an honest selection rep than a liar. Still a pretty su-ky process.

I met with my selection representative and he told me that the roles I applied for have incumbents and would be very difficult for me to unseat. And he was honest enough to let me know that he thinks this is the end of the road and very few options left. He didn’t even bother to review my work talent card or past work stuff and he was pretty direct. I guess I can appreciate that.

I really only got 20 minutes with mine which I thought was a little too little considering everything. I was hoping for a little guidance on which jobs they felt I was a good fit for in case I missed something but didn't get that. Most of my questions were through teams and were answered fairly quickly. They ranged from questions about bundles to questions about formatting the talent card. We were asked to create a cheat sheet for our rep with how we meet the criteria listed in the job as well.

my selection rep is actually doing quite an amazing job. He’s got more people to rep than I know in all of Chevron circle, and yet somehow finds out from job owners about whether my 7-8 jobs have an incumbent or they’re really open for competition in a pretty short time.

With that said he looks like dogshit because I don’t think he’s slept much in a week. It’s probably all for nothing because half of us won’t get jobs.

Ask him/her if it’s true that if you hit that EOI button does house music start thumping, confetti drop from the ceiling, and does Mike Wirth really suddenly appear on your computer screen holding a We’ll Miss You (not really) sign? Or is this just a rumor?

My selection rep doesn't take calls or accept meeting invites at this point. "Too busy" despite representing Wave 2 people. Those of us who would have been better off in Wave 1 and wanted him to move us there likely had our careers ended by this lazy d-mbsh*t.

R&A baby. Also find out their favorite drink and take it to them. It's all about the schmooze.

How much integrity do you have? Are you generally a good person with morals and ethics?

I would start out asking how they are doing. People like when you take interest in them.

Adding to my incumbent comment above and many slection reps may not have/give that information, just frame it as “am I a strong candidate for this role?” Their response to that will tell you everything.

If you’re not good and hard working or don’t have rapport with the people making the calls here, it’s tough sailing. May the odds forever be in your favor!

Ask if the role has an incumbent and how strong of a candidate they are. Lots of roles fall into this category with the person in seat almost certainly getting it.

You won’t have a ton of options, but if you do try to apply for spots that don’t have or have weak incumbents.
