Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

I'm most likely gone

I joined less than six months ago, and I’m already convinced I’ll be out of a job once the reorg kicks in. I’m so pi---d. I turned down another offer for this. I actually thought I was lucky to get this opportunity. Yeah, right. I might be young, but that’s no excuse to mess with my livelihood like this.

You'll be fine - I hired on during a round of layoffs as well.

OP, no companies are safe these days. I don't know if you follow NBA basketball, but look what happened to Luka Doncic getting traded to the LA Lakers. He thought he was safe.

Keep learning and improving your knowledge and skills, and you should be better able to handle whatever comes your way.

@a7 seems to believe that white men are automatically considered competent while anyone else is deemed incompetent unless proven beyond doubt and maybe not even then. Can’t imagine what demographic @a7 falls in but have a hunch.

Agree with @ad it is unlikely that you will be laid off unless you were pulled into a group that will be totally cut. Generally, those cut have skills that have atrophied or are no longer needed, which is not typically the case for a new hire. That said, sometimes it is just the luck of the draw to be in the wrong seat when the music stops.

MW, MN, JW, GK, and JJ were DEi hires?

Chevron used to be a great company to work for before DEI got out of hand. An employee was promoted and advance based on hard work and qualifications. Now it’s based on gender, color of skin, s-xual preference it’s all based on numbers not qualifications. Chevron has always been an upstanding diverse company that never discriminated against any race, gender when it came to advancements. Non qualified DEI hires will be the companies downfall and setback. Sad to see HR announce on linked-in that they need to reduce the number of white males in management! (Seems a little racist) Happy to have retired from the company when it was great.

I would say you may actually be lucky to get out this early and frankly, you're smart to see it and act. CVX is a shell of what it used to be. Good luck.
