Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Data center projects

Several projects people have left or are leaving to work data centers. Will this continue. Seems lots in news. These jobs are all over LinkedIn and recruiters have even mentioned companys targeting Exxon people. Guess all that fluffing of our projects in earnings calls is good! Ha.

(And I know someone on our LcS project who told me our work is not actually the datacenter. )

From what I’ve heard and found online the total compensation could be better for mid career people.?? Seems slightly less base salary. But a lot more bonuses and stock and vests much sooner. Anyone have real insight on that?? And don’t let exxons sandbagging position titles fool you. I’m a ‘project engineer’ but would be at least project manager elsewhere and so loook at right jobs/comps for your years

Pay at MS, META, Google and Amazon are highly competitive with XOM and other oil companies, plus the stock grants are lucrative (at least in the last 10 years), compared to XOM stock. Poor work life balance because they really can track your performance or lack of performance. Lower bureaucracy and management layers means YOU are accountable for success or failure. MANY FAIL and are cut. OR you are cut because you are in an OBSOLETE technology (pure luck or bad fortune could guide your career).

To my Houston Finance colleagues, read the writing on the wall. No future left for us either. Steep cuts coming soon with 1st wave of Polaris implementation, Ops consolidation and job cuts, slow project activities, daisy chain of job moves from HC10, to GBC, to India, to MSP. Was told I no longer had exec potential but might be able to compete for what was my dream job, which has been downgraded to CL28. Um, no thanks! I'm late 30s, CL 27, know my value, confident to take my chances elsewhere. Hear of lot of you singing the tune 'the same thing happening everywhere'. Be honest. You're trying to justify staying out of fear of the unknown if you leave. Recognize that eventually, the fear will consume you and is no way to live.

@OP Base comp depends on role, years of experience, etc.

Keep in mind that a lot of people at EM are overstating what they make (a quick dip into TWN usually brings the truth out).

At least these are in US. Since Exxon changed policy to sc--w project expats. And still try to force us to go.

Yeah I have a friend who went to google. Says stock bonuses are paid evenly over 4 years.

You can find lots of compensation info online for those big tech companies like Microsoft Google etc. seems they are more transparent. Just have to figure out the levels
