Thread regarding Walgreens layoffs

Age seems to be a factor

Why are most of the affected folks 40 and above? I'm yet to see somebody in their 20s or 30s affected, at least for now.

@OP as you get older you become more expensive for a private equity

@a6 Older may mean higher salaries, but the experience they bring is priceless. Additionally, they understand the Walgreens culture of olde, when the mission statement meant caring for your colleague and serving the clients and patients. Today, the mission appears to be - let's make a quick buck, however we can. This mentality will trickle down to the stores and make our staff cold and callous. Thereby turning Walgreens customer service and sensibilities into another CVS or Walmart. I love the current culture and friendly service I receive at Walgreens. Damned is the day when we lose that human touch.

If someone retains a firm for class-action age discrimination lawsuit, I will join. I am the eldest on my team, and I was let go. I have witnessed many instances where age appears to be the determining factor. Yet they retained contractors who have been with the company for one week and two months. It's not financial because in many cases the contractors cost more than Walgreens employees.

someone here sounds like a Walgreens legal representative. Lower your vocabulary so we can think you're one of us and dispensing credible advice.

People under 40 being let go doesn't mean there isn't discrimination, even if it's not deliberate or nefarious doesn't mean it's not discriminatory. What is the ratio, and are more people over 40 being required to continue working without an admin leave, delaying their ability to job search because they have to help train their own replacement, compared to people with less industry knowledge who get to spend the next two months with no obligations?

There are plenty of under 40 let go. Depends on the team. But being over 40 I do feel the same anxiety for the next few days

If that is the case they have to give you a list of the roles and ages of those laid off by Federal regulation. Know your rights before you sign anything.
